EVENT INFO: LOSE YOUR SOUL

EVENT INFO: LOSE YOUR SOUL
the basics
It's almost Halloween, the night when ghouls and goblins pass through the veil and the restless dead walk the earth. Or whatever planet Beacon is on. Actually, the restless dead are kind of always walking around here, aren't they? Whatever, the point is, it's almost Halloween! And it seems like the forest spirits might know that, because as the fateful day approaches, they're definitely Up To Something.
On the 30th, All Hallow's Eve Eve, this mischievous plotting culminates in the appearance of a crudely built theater in the town square. Looks like the spirits have even made some makeshift benches (or... did they maybe steal those off your porches?) for you to sit on! Clearly, they're expecting an audience.
As midnight nears, some of the more friendly spirits gather to perform a strange play in pantomime, a story about fire and thieves. It's an odd narrative, given that it's been written by spirits, but it appears to be a cautionary tale about mysterious beings known only as the Fire Snatchers. Surely it's something made up by the creatures, or some local urban legend meant to frighten you. Tis the season, after all. But then Halloween itself arrives, and things start to go missing.
It's clear that the spirits are behind the thefts, but it's not clear why. Whatever the reason, nothing is sacred. They won't go so far as to steal lanterns, but the clothes you're wearing? The food you're eating? The tablet you were just texting with? All fair game. The spirits will snatch anything they can get their dirty little paws, claws, and other appendages on, so watch your stuff!
After All Saint's Day is over, the pilfered possessions will reappear— in the church, of all places. But nothing's labelled, so have fun sorting through the piles for the things you lost. If someone else hasn't taken them already.
the details
Characters are not required to witness the play, though it might give them more context once their things start vanishing. As stated, the spirits have no limits in what they steal (or how much you were using it when it gets stolen), except that they won't take anything that's keeping you alive. Like your lantern, for instance. They're here to educate you on the dangers of burglary, not murder you!
In addition to your things being stolen, you're also free to play out the aftermath; someone else finding your item, someone else finding your item and saying "finders keepers" before pocketing it, begging others on the network for information as to its whereabouts, etc..
Players are free to create their own spirit NPCs for this event, so if you want a little critter to steal from your character, or for your character to chase down after the theft, feel free! As this is a small event for Halloween, mods will not be playing the spirits here. If you have any questions about this, or how the spirits might behave during the event, you are welcome to ask below!
Additionally, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:
