the basics

So the spirits decided to throw you a party; a feast, in fact. Cool! But then everyone who ate it suddenly collapsed, and now it's just you and a bunch of other confused (and probably still hungry) people with no idea what's happening. Are the feasters dead, or just unconscious? And what was in that food? Unfortunately, there's no time to stop and figure it out.

Almost immediately after the mass-fainting, a sharp rustling begins to echo from all around. Spirits, an army of them, creep purposefully out of the trees. And they aren't the friendly ones who made you all this dinner, either; instead it's those infamous green-eyed spirits, but more than just the one that plagued the last big feast in Beacon— (maybe you guys just shouldn't have parties? just saying)— this time there's more of them. A lot more.

Their exact intentions are unclear, but one thing's for sure: they do not come in peace. Over the next two weeks, these spirits will attack the town and everyone in it, using an arsenal of potent psychic abilities and the spirits' particularly unsettling flavor of physical violence. So grab that comatose body next to you and book it to the nearest safe space, or grab a weapon and get to fighting. It's time to defend the town!

the details

Starting on November 16th, the green-eyed spirits will launch an all-out assault on the citizens of Beacon. Their tactics will include not only their trademark induced hallucinations and general mind games, but physical violence as well. They seem to have recruited— or otherwise coerced— some of the forest's more dangerous inhabitants to their cause, and as a whole they will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal. Whatever that might be. Are they trying to kill you all? Just trying to scare you and going too far? Or is there something else sinister going on? Whatever the case may be, here are a few things you should know about the event itself:

• The attacking spirits will not be frightened away or otherwise diverted from their onslaught of their own free will. As a result, the attack will last the entire duration of the event. Get ready for the long haul, everybody!


• Characters may form groups to fight together (and, in practice, thread together against the spirits). These groups can consist of no more than 4 members, as any higher number would make threads unwieldy.


• Outside of the threads against spirits, characters are welcome to thread with those not in their chosen groups at their leisure.


• Characters can also go solo, naturally.


• Please report any formed groups in the appropriate place below. Your character won't have to spend every waking moment with these folks, but they will be fighting alongside them, so choose wisely!


• Mod responses (playing the attacking spirits) will come readily to threads that request it or that are obviously geared toward fighting the spirits, but beware: the attacking spirits may appear suddenly in any thread on the event log.


• Characters may alter the setting by building structures to better defend the town. Report any defenses constructed in the appropriate place below.


• Additional things to report include any property destruction, permanent injuries, or deaths.


• The reporting threads on this post will be used throughout the event! Anything not reported here will NOT count as game canon.

With the recent discovery of the bike shop, it opens the possibility of making a cart to transport dreamers to the armory, that would turn a few hours trek into a much easier journey.

This timeline looks good, the location of our last stand could be wherever the most people are or what needs protecting (if it's the armory, cool!) This assumes Riku survives that long (I have no idea what injuries Riku might get) but other than the various unpredictable parts I'm down for this!

EDIT SORRY it does look like a lot of people are interested in sticking to the Invincible, so that might throw a slight wrench in that Riku will prioritize defense in order of: where most of his friends are, followed by where most of the people are.

I know about the Invincible, but also, the mods asked us to keep all groups under 4? So, that's why I picked the Armory. Yeah, big thoughts went in to that one.

Bikes! I just saw! And depending on what date they're going to say it was discovered on, that might change things? But if they put it out on the 14th or 15th, not that maybe characters will have time to go get bikes before the Event happens.

Can you help turn stuff at the newly discovered bike shop into a cart for transporting our dreamers? I mean there's a lot of interest in using the Invincible but if it ends up overrun or indefensible (I mean it's a hotel, not a fortress), it's possible people might be pitching the idea of relocating to the Armory, since it's highly camouflaged and full of weapons.

No pressure to go one way or another but an idea!

Makes sense on all counts! There are a lot of unknowns right now about what kind of condition Riku might or might not be in by the end of the event, so this is my hard yes with the possibility that something might change if like........ Riku dies or can't fight or whatever!

OOH, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS TOGETHER, it looks great. My only concern is that kind of like what Dubs said, unless the majority of his CR make the trip and sway him into going or the town gets overrun, M.K. would argue staying in town is strategically better than travelling out in the open to the armory.

If we're flexible with location, though, once we see what shakes out a little more we can totally figure out a way to get the boys together one way or another!

plans: Masaomi doesn't have close enough CR to be bound and determined to one sleeping body. He will be jumping all over, trying to help everywhere he can. But he's also a powerless human teenager who gets in over his head at every turn and has never fought an actual monster before. If you're looking for a defender for your character to rescue, either dutifully or begrudgingly, I offer Masaomi up for the chopping block. Masaomi could also charge in and take a hit for your character who could handle it just fine because he's an idiot. So that's always an option too.
notes: Aziraphale gave Masaomi some gel pens, so he might use them to make signs pointing people in certain directions if anyone wants to play with that.

Masaomi is a 16 year old delinquent gang leader, so he has plenty of street fighting experience and is damn resourceful with would-be weaponry, but he's got nothing beyond that. He is also a pretty intense personality though he's intense more in an over-hyped, loud, pop-culture punning kind of way, sob.

If you're interested, I'm here for a team-up, or even just a thread.

I think there's a lot of in-the-air about all of them? Because Quentin could end up dying so many times before he even makes it to the bonfire, nevermind all the way out to the armory. Or be too injured to move?

Do we know if the Dreamers can be injured during any of this?

But the problem with everyone at the Invincible, is that the mods asked for groups of no more than 4 characters at a time? Unless everyone is on board with organizing everyone in to small groups and each defending one part of the Inn? And a lot of people seemed to want to rush in and out of groups / situations and not be bogged down.

Also, a lot of this place is -insert hand flail- because all of them can die, all of them can be too injured to go on or the spirits themselves can do something unexpected. Like, we all read about the fire-snatchers, right? If the spirits go for the bonfire, more people might elect to stay close to keep it safe. If they go for the lanterns, that would be a concern as well.

There's also the question about food and water, which would have to be carried out to the armory unless someone has stocked it in case of emergency. The Inn could fall, like, blow apart or get demolished.

So many unknown factors here, but I had to make some kind of timeline just to know what the hell I'm getting Quentin in to and because everyone has so many plans, it's easier to get a heads up to see if a character is kind of/maybe available at a given time? But M.K. is more than welcome to join the fray at any time! Quentin is on the road a lot, so they can met up just about anywhere, as long as we're never more than four at any given time.

You say anything, but does that include a dumb, flirty 16 year old boy with a crowbar who would probably jump in her way to protect her despite her being much more powerful than him?

All I know is that any injuries the Dreamers get inside the dream don't transfer to outside. Maybe it's assuming defenders won't let them get hurt? (And as a way to ICly explain how the OOC preferences for no body horror is observed, probably...)

I did ask about the green-eyed spirits attack preferences, and it SEEMS they prefer to attack the awake people than the sleeping people, so possibly dreamers are less likely to be hurt at least?
