the basics

So the spirits decided to throw you a party; a feast, in fact. Cool! But then everyone who ate it suddenly collapsed, and now it's just you and a bunch of other confused (and probably still hungry) people with no idea what's happening. Are the feasters dead, or just unconscious? And what was in that food? Unfortunately, there's no time to stop and figure it out.

Almost immediately after the mass-fainting, a sharp rustling begins to echo from all around. Spirits, an army of them, creep purposefully out of the trees. And they aren't the friendly ones who made you all this dinner, either; instead it's those infamous green-eyed spirits, but more than just the one that plagued the last big feast in Beacon— (maybe you guys just shouldn't have parties? just saying)— this time there's more of them. A lot more.

Their exact intentions are unclear, but one thing's for sure: they do not come in peace. Over the next two weeks, these spirits will attack the town and everyone in it, using an arsenal of potent psychic abilities and the spirits' particularly unsettling flavor of physical violence. So grab that comatose body next to you and book it to the nearest safe space, or grab a weapon and get to fighting. It's time to defend the town!

the details

Starting on November 16th, the green-eyed spirits will launch an all-out assault on the citizens of Beacon. Their tactics will include not only their trademark induced hallucinations and general mind games, but physical violence as well. They seem to have recruited— or otherwise coerced— some of the forest's more dangerous inhabitants to their cause, and as a whole they will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal. Whatever that might be. Are they trying to kill you all? Just trying to scare you and going too far? Or is there something else sinister going on? Whatever the case may be, here are a few things you should know about the event itself:

• The attacking spirits will not be frightened away or otherwise diverted from their onslaught of their own free will. As a result, the attack will last the entire duration of the event. Get ready for the long haul, everybody!


• Characters may form groups to fight together (and, in practice, thread together against the spirits). These groups can consist of no more than 4 members, as any higher number would make threads unwieldy.


• Outside of the threads against spirits, characters are welcome to thread with those not in their chosen groups at their leisure.


• Characters can also go solo, naturally.


• Please report any formed groups in the appropriate place below. Your character won't have to spend every waking moment with these folks, but they will be fighting alongside them, so choose wisely!


• Mod responses (playing the attacking spirits) will come readily to threads that request it or that are obviously geared toward fighting the spirits, but beware: the attacking spirits may appear suddenly in any thread on the event log.


• Characters may alter the setting by building structures to better defend the town. Report any defenses constructed in the appropriate place below.


• Additional things to report include any property destruction, permanent injuries, or deaths.


• The reporting threads on this post will be used throughout the event! Anything not reported here will NOT count as game canon.

plans: Still working out whether it's viable but Riku may start bringing people to the Armory, if that's too far, he'll be trying to round up others to help defend and secure the Church. Willing to take a partner, largely he'll be popping in to help others as Riku has a tendency to Go It Alone, and a group of three or four would be too much for me with my schedule (and I'm in Japan right now).
notes: Riku's been incapable of summoning his keyblade since last month which means all his magical and healing abilities are inaccessible. He'll be fighting with a broadsword he acquired a week ago from the Armory and, of course, still has the powers of Darkness so there's that!!

I'd like him to recover use of the Keyblade, but being KH garbage I would want this to be a Dramatically Appropriate Moment involving protecting friends, blah blah. You know the deal...

Yes, definitely! That would be one of Rosi's priorities and he'll be able to help lift people easily. He probably won't even drop very many of them, this stuff keeps him focused.

I mean we DEFINITELY need team tattoo buddies at the very least. But Jason has touched base with most of the Stranger Things cast so I would love to continue that more -- especially in battle.

plans: Vanitas is going to be fighting all over the place. He won't have a set group but I'd love for him to swing in and out with others to help or hinder or be healed by. The only plans I have set in stone are:

he'll be with Jason Todd at some point

he'll be with Riku at some point

he is going to die

He has a couple of fun things to go along with this: one is Vanitas has been killed once already by the forest spirits so he can warn characters what they're capable of. He also comes with a small army of Unversed that he can use to defend other characters or as a diversion. He can grab characters through his dark portal in a nick-of-time scenario.

Also, if you want an excuse to get your character injured, Vanitas will 100% abandon your character to save his own hide. I'm super chuffed to have him be the object of negative CR, so if you want to do something like this please hmu I live for it.

notes: I like writing battle scenes and I'd love to get gorey so let me know if you would like me to minimize the blood and broken bones and flesh wounds... Also Vanitas has his own permission post you may want to take a peek at here

The Invincible has been his advocated fallback point all along so Crowley's plan is right on the money, he'll actually laud it as the best idea. And then be a sass at him.

plans: I have nothing for Elle as of yet, beyond maybe dragging a dreamer or two to safety. She'll be eager to find other people to team up with, because that's her MO when things get tough. GOTTA PROTECT FOLKS. She'll be watching everyone's back like a hawk, but she could also get herself into trouble easily by biting off more than she can chew. c':
notes: Elle will be avoiding using her "active" powers (the ones that turn her eyes jet black and make chaos 100% worse for everyone else around her), but she'll have her standard abilities like increased strength and uncanny aim, etc.

What about the Invincible as a central location to bring people (particularly Dreamers?). There's food there and places to rest.

plans: javert will be keeping to the invincible for most of this event, and any other buildings that are going to be fortified. he'll help barricade windows and set up obstacles and choke points to keep the spirits at bay. he'll be coordinating with the other defenders as much as he can, moving between groups and temporarily teaming up with others. also, if your character needs a weapon and doesn't want to go all the way out to the armory to get one, he's got an arsenal to lend out.

plans: no plans, she's brand new here and i'm excited for the opportunity for CR/team ups/spirit fighting!
notes: i mentioned this while signing her up but i'd like to avoid getting her murdered or too hurt (ie nothing that will cause permanent damage), but witnessing murder is fine. also, she's a medical doctor so she can help with tending to those who do end up in those conditions.

plans: Akira is going to be suggesting that everyone take the Dreamers to the Invincible, and will then be offering to patrol the perimeter to protect the building-slash-Dreamers from harm! He'll also be suggesting people use the Invincible as a kind of "safe room," i.e. a place to recharge and rest. He won't be straying too far from the building and most of his time there will be spent outdoors making sure it stays safe, but there will be plenty of opportunities to fight with him and/or just thread with him during a rest period inside! JUST LMK IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, I am cool with most anything!
notes: Akira's suggestion is ofc just a suggestion so while he'll be recommending everyone bring the Dreamers to the Invincible for safekeeping (and will be suggesting everyone use it as a safe space too) it's totally okay if you have other plans or your character wouldn't cooperate oocly! ALSO: I LOVE FIGHT THREADS, so even please hit me up for some of those, I'll likely be tossing Akira at other people when the opportunity arrives for some CR building via COMBAT.

plans: Not a whole lot. He's going to be sticking by his two sleeping friends side until the spirits leave or until he can get them to a safe enough spot where he doesn't have to keep an eye on them constantly. He'll likely try to get to the Armory to get a melee weapon of some kind, since ong-range fighting is more his style but he's very short on bullets at the moment. Team work is also more his preference, so he might jump in to help people who look like they need a hand or request one himself.

notes: As mentioned above, he's not the greatest at up-close physical fighting, but he's more than capable of building or maintaining barricades, repairing things, moving stuff, and making jokes to keep morale up.
