MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: DEFENDER ROULETTE

Hey, Beacon Bits! Given the event is coming to a close, and due to it being a busy time of year, we wanted to offer you guys an ooc roulette similar to what we did when the ferry crashed! We figured this would be a fun way for anyone who was hoping for specific outcomes to play with a chance to get that without having to wait for thread resolutions in order to participate in any fallout threads or the upcoming intro log!

Interested? Just fill out the info and post it below, and we'll RNG you somewhere between one and six. The higher your number, the more grievous your character's injury. You can opt out for death, and we'll keep in mind the type of limits you guys offered us earlier this month during event sign-ups.

Towards the end of the second week, while outside, Xayah hears one of the dreamers cry out in a wordless panic. Rushing out to find it, she finds the illusion of a person already within the Invincible. But the instant she steps out of the door (or window, whatever sneaky way she tries to leave), she'll feel a piercing limb shoving through her midsection. Something unfurls behind her, and horribly, she's carried off, walked by a creature at least twenty feet tall. It jars her as it moves her, til it reaches the edge of the forest.

There's several tall, thick wooden spikes waiting there. Her body is thrown on there, where she's left to die.

There's a great screeching and ripping and tearing as a great, mult-winged spirit tears apart Rosalind's lab from the roof. If she takes any action to fend off the creature to keep it from causing any further damage, it turns in her instead. In the scuffle, it swings a claw across her body. The great, bloody gash goes all the way from her midsection and up across her nose and one of her eyes, rupturing it completely.

In the process of slipping out to help move someone, Akira will be caught by a heavy blow, something slamming him into the ribs and back against a wall. Three ribs are broken, and one arm is broken in two places. He also has a mild concussion.

In the second week, Jason will see something outside. A small figure, childlike, hunched over in a protective slouch, arms shielding their head. He can hear sobbing, sobbing, crying in fear, and green eyes circle closer and closer to the defenseless child. But if he dares to try and approach, to drag the wayward child to safety...he'll soon realize his mistake.

The circling eyes vanish and the figure uncoils, and it's all leechlike teeth and shifting skin. It launches itself at him, suctioning itself around his arm, hundreds of razor teeth piercing and tearing his skin. The pressure tightens and tightens, and he feels the thick bone in his upper arm snap in half before he finally manages to fend it off.

Heading down into the basement of the Invincible for supplies, Kuai will feel something wrap tight around his wrists. It traps him in place, keeping him still as little things skitter over his body. Crawling up from his shoes, there have to be at least hundreds, thousands, creeping over every inch of skin, over his lips and eyes and hair . . .

But they only start biting when they reach his ears. Starting at the lobe, the insects don't stop gnawing until they've chewed one ear clean off, and then he'll get to listen to them tearing it apart between them all, eating his flesh eagerly.

Once they finish, he'll be released. There's no trace of the insects.

Something buzzes, something swoops. With thin, sharp limbs, it crashes through the cracks in a window's barricade. Although it doesn't injure anyone immediately, someone (of his choice, feel free to plot this out) gets caught by the back of their shirt, stuck and unable to reach around and free themselves. When Riku leaps in to help free this individual, it seems at first that, as the needle-arms retract, they've avoided the problem unscathed.

But before Riku's backed away from the window completely, one of those arms comes back. It pieces him straight through the center of his neck. Although they'll be able to staunch the bleeding...it'll be awhile before he's able to regain full use of his vocal cords.

While guarding Bruce's body, a strange metallic creature rushes towards the duo. It's remarkably graceful, proportioned like a man, but wields no weapons. The instant it reaches for Bruce and Jason reacts, though, he'll understand why: the creature is incredibly hot to the touch. Metal weapons melt the instant they touch it; bare flesh burns in an instant, and clothes are melted right onto skin.

Fighting it off takes time, but Jason manages. But he's left with second and third degree burns all over at least 20% of his body.

It doesn't matter that he's inside. There's scratching, clawing, and then a floorboard cracks. Thick claws meant for digging rip through the floor until the mole-like spirit is sniffing its way into the stronghold. It swivels itself in Prompto's direction, almost seeming tame until it launches itself at his leg. It'll bite and claw its way up his body until it's able to be pried off, where it'll escape where it came. There'll be plenty of time to re-seal the tunnel it made.

The amount of scars that Prompto receives is completely up to you, but if it reaches his side, it'll rip off a big, meaty chunk of flesh.

At some point later in the second week, Cao Pi will lay down to sleep and find himself in the most vivid dream he's ever experienced. It's absolutely real to him, but all it is, is a room. A white, featureless room without doors or windows. It's almost blindingly well-lit, and there's a single chair for him sit in.

And he stays there.

And he stays there for days.

And he stays there for weeks.

And he stays there until he's taken apart the chair and he's raged at the walls and he's fought and fought and fought and still nothing happens, nothing at all, nothing but the white walls and the bright lights and the ceaseless, uncaring silence that he can never, ever fill.

And then he wakes.

It's only been an hour in reality, if that. His sheets are all tangled, though, his body soaked in sweat. And there's a low sigh, a contended exhalation, before the window creaks and a shadow steals into the night.

Kida is slashed by a claw of some kind, slicing through his flesh from by his ear down towards his stomach. Slicing open his stomach, his innards spilling out; he has to act fact or he'll die from it.

It doesn't get in, not exactly. But somehow, it found a way through the cracks. At some point when he's sleeping, or perhaps just dozed off temporarily, he'll feel a tugging, sticking sensation. Even as he wakes, it's too late to stop it right away. The spider silk that's wound around his middle is thick and heavy, like coarse rope. He's lifted off the floor, pulled up and up and up, until he's colliding with the rafters. But whatever has him on the other side can't break him through. He'll be able to sever the web, or maybe it releases him.

But then, of course, he crashes back down to the floor, hard. He'll suffer minor fracturing in one of his arms (your choice) and a few of his ribs, a sprain in one wrist, not to mention a terrible amount of bruising and stiffness all over the rest of his body.

It doesn't seem that she's even the target of the spirit that nearly turns her into mincemeat. Maybe she was helping someone else in a struggle, or just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but all of a sudden she's thrown to the ground, her body used as a springboard. Talons, long and curved, bore into her midsection. She's lifted briefly off the ground, but it doesn't want her, and its grip slackens, but not before taking chunks of meat along with it.

The bleeding is brutal, and intense, and it will be a very close call, but with medical attention she should be able to pull through.

While taking an ill-advised trip to salvage food from the general store, something small darts out from behind a cluster of canned goods. It bits into her wrist and pulls backward. For a second, it feels like she might lose the hand, but in the struggle, as he shoulder pops free of its socket, the spirit suddenly lets go, scampering away unseen, knocking over products in its wake and making a mess of the aisle.

Close to the end of the second week, if Klaes steps outside for any reason, he'll find something tugging on his foot. Small, root-like hands clutch onto his ankle. When he tries to shake them off, as they don't particularly hurt, instead he manages to lift the creature further up from the earth. A twisted bark-and-dirt face with pressed-closed eyes pops up and out.

It starts screaming.

The scream enters his brain like an arrow. His eardrums burst and his balance collapses as his vision swims and hot blood leaks from his ears. It won't take long for him to lose consciousness. When he awakens, everything is ringing, his skull aches. He can hear nothing else.

His hearing will return gradually.

The spirit stares at Noob. It sits on hands and feet that are also hands, and it laughs and laughs. Laughs at him. Mocks him, without words. With knowing, incessant giggling. It doesn't stop until Noob comes after it...but as soon as Noob has it...it has him.

Everything is quiet and dark. No, not dark. It's black. Blackness. It's all a shadow, but not a shadow he can control. It seeps into him through his eyes, his nose, his mouth, his ears, through every single pore. Through the space between his fingernails. Through the follicles of every hair. And then it splits, and he is nothing.

Nothing but a cold lantern.

In addition, since Eleven is absolutely going to overextend herself and violently overuse her powers to defend the Invincible, as well as having to get from location to location as she's time sharing some defense with people in other locations, I'd love for her to suffer some temporary power loss, the duration of which I'd love to put into mod hands as well.

While Quentin carries Eliot on the stretcher he's made, his load suddenly becomes heavier and heavier. He'll find a spirit sitting cross-legged on top of the sleeper, head turned all the way upside-down and regarding Quentin in an air of what almost seems to be curiosity. The spirit lunges without warning. Quentin will get away with a deep set of gouges down his back, from the top of his spine all the way down.

There's a crack of a branch and Eleven will recognize the spirit she's faced with. The void-faced creature follows her on gliding, jointless footsteps. If Eleven tries to fight it, she'll feel an unusual sense of vertigo. When her nose bleeds, the blood drifts into the air, and then into the void. That yawning, silently screaming void.

It doesn't kill Eleven, but it gets so close and so big and so all-consuming, and her head feels like it'll be crushed inward...and then she passes out. When she wakes up, her eyes are bloodshot, like vessels have been burst. It'll clear up eventually, but her powers take longer to come back.

She'll be without them through the month of January, unless she dies first.

While out and about, Remington finds a spirit who seems awfully curious about that axe he carries around. Those symbols on the hilt especially seem like something they ought to investigate . . . . they reach for it, long claws interested in adding a few symbols of their own. But the instant Remi goes to defend his property, the spirit rears back. There's a low snarl, and it happens in an instant: that claw strikes, gripping the base of his jaw. And it rips, tearing flesh apart, bone snapping, claws digging in until at last his lower jaw is ripped clear from his body.

He's left to bleed out. It won't take long.

A bit of an unrelated question, but...! For the characters that die, do all of their accumulated injuries over the course of the event heal, or just the ones that directly contributed to their death?

They'd all heal unless you'd prefer them not to! Consider it a hard reset (hehe).
