MINI-EVENT: SPIRIT VALENTINE'S DAY (INFO AND SIGN UP!)

PREMISE OF THE EVENT
The friendly spirits of Beacon will be celebrating Valentine’s Day! Most of the spirits have been watching and observing the characters from afar for a while now and, whatever the reasons are, have either started to admire them or even outgrow affectionate for one character or another.
With the help of Daylight, who will be escorting a majority of them through the event to act as either interpreter or moral support, the excited spirits will be giving gifts and parcels they worked very hard on to the character who caught their eyes!
Hey everyone! I'm Melly - player of Daylight vis Lornlit (
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
This is a completely opt-in player event for those who want to have some silly spirit shenanigans. If you're interested, please check out the following dates* below:
February 5 - 7 (OOC)
Announcement of the event.
Sign up for the event + singing up for what type of spirit you’d like to get.
NOTE: Sign up for the event is now closed! We've also hit our cap of five players for customised spirits.
February 8 - 12 (IC)
Spirit Gathering Intel! This is where characters will begin to notice the spirits’ antics and shenanigans in the leadup towards Valentine’s Day through the next several days.
February 14 (IC) / February 14 - 15 (OOC)
The event itself! Please note that while it’s set on Valentine’s Day, it'll be running into the first half of the weekend so everyone gets a chance to interact with their spirit and thread out their reactions + interactions against each other.
I’ll have a post up in the log community and it will consist of the following:
— A description of the attempts by the spirits to make it Valentine’s Day-is as possible, from throwing glitter around to make the areas more pretty or hanging paper hearts and pretty rocks on trees or scribbling hearts on the residences of the characters! Basically doing the well-meaning but gremlin-menacing things the spirits are known to do during the holiday events.
— Several prompts for characters to use to facilitate interaction with one another! Have your characters mingle as they marvel/despair over the spirits being spirits.
— For my sanity’s sake, a top-level where characters can finally meet their spirit admirer and interact with the spirit and, now and then, Daylight. Judging by how the interaction is going, RNG events can spice up the back-and-forth until the present is finally given. Some are simple trinkets. Some will be pretty chunks of dirt or bits of rock. Some may prove useful or detrimental to characters.**

( * - Please note that the dates I’ve listed here have the timezone GMT +8 in mind, since I'll be running this and I'm from the future.
** - If you guys opt for this, of course, and ask for a customised spirit. Please refer to the fill-out form below to get a better idea of what this would entail for your character, should you choose to agree to this angle.)
(POSSIBLY) F.A.Q.
How do I join? What do I need to fill?
Simply select one of the two forms found in the top-levels I've set up and, after you've filled it, enter a comment to this post with the answered form! That will be considered your participation notice in the event.
Will the vendor spirits be involved in the event? Like the Postmaster General or the Concierge or [insert favourite spirit vendor here]?
No, they will not be involved! Spirits who will be giving characters' gifts and who will be involved in this event are all the 'normal' spirits of Beacon. They will come in two flavours: Generic spirits and customised spirits.
What's the difference between a generic spirit and a customised spirit?
The difference between the spirit types are these:
A generic spirit: They won’t be described much in terms of appearance and all of them will have the same personality: Excited and a little overzealous for the event, very eager to give the object of their affections their gifts. They're more likely to get RNG'd events happening in their events, just to make sure the threads/interactions do differentiate from one another.
A customised spirit: They’ll get a nickname, a set personality, and a unique look to them! They'll usually complement the character in some way, in order to explain why the spirit is so fascinated with the character in question. NOTE: This type of spirit will have a cap of five characters getting them, since this will be a lot of work on my end and I want to be sure I'm not biting off more than I can chew.
I’m a new player and my character hasn’t done anything notable yet or been around that long. Can I still sign up for the event/sign up for a customized spirit?
Yes! Absolutely! Even if your character is new to Beacon and has only been around for a few days, it doesn’t mean a spirit wouldn't be intrigued by your character! Maybe your character is carrying a unique and fascinating item on them that a spirit covets. Maybe your character exudes a mysterious aura that caught the flighty spirit's ways. Maybe your character is just that cute. Feel free to hop in!
Can I ignore the event if it’s not my thing?
Sure! The spirits antics’ are pretty small scale and will, unlike most of their activities, only last for an IC day.

Yeah! You're absolutely free to do so.

What are things your character likes?
It might be easier to list things he doesn't like HAHA. Food is always good, he'll always wear something if someone else made it for him, and right now he's kind of into cooking? He's also always running around and fighting, so he'll definitely appreciate something to protect him in a fight. He's a very active kid who likes to try new things! Hit him.
What are things your character dislikes?
He doesn't dislike them but the Librarian always gives him a book every now and then to read! He's good on books! Especially since he's a pretty slow reader. He's also not going to knowingly use mind-altering like drugs or liquor. He'll happily give those away as gifts, though!
Are you open to there being bouts of one-off instances of threadjacking in your threads, whether they are in the network community or in the log community or in your inbox?
(TURNS MY HEAD ALL THE WAY AROUND) Are you kidding me that would make my entire life, please do this.
Are you open to your character getting things they wouldn’t like?
1. A spirit getting him an absolute rain of books since they see him visiting the librarian every week would make me howl with laughter
2. I do not mind at all if he gets like pot brownies or something - he avoids them because they're just not his style! I'd laugh, he'd probably be okay.
3. Honestly?? Just go crazy???? Let's roulette this thing!!!

What are things your character likes?
She likes drawing, sketching and all sorts of art. She wants to learn new things like baking or about the spirits or the people here. It's dark but I feel like she'd love taking pictures or really any creative outlet. Naminé is new and there aren't really a lot of things she doesn't like.
What are things your character dislikes?
Mostly mean people. She doesn't know how to do a lot and might be confused if she gets something she has no context for like a lot of technology but I even feel like that isn't an issue with everyone who is in game. So the answer to this is mean people lol.

What are things your character likes?
Clark likes books, coffee, tea, stationery items, trinkets, crafts, and… well, generally everything, really. Corny Hallmark cards are also awesome. He also really likes the colour pink.
Kal is fascinated by earthly, nature-y things like rocks and dirt and such, like the kind of things you’d find on a nature trail. Smooth pebbles, especially the sort good for throwing, are pretty sweet. He also really likes the colour pink.
Both aren’t extremely picky, though!
What are things your character dislikes?
Clark isn’t a huge fan of loud noises and flashing lights. Given he leans more towards sentiment than the actual gifts, however, he’d be happy to receive anything.
Kal doesn’t like INJUSTICE AND LIES. But seriously, as long as you don’t give him kryptonite, he’s pretty sold.
Are you open to there being bouts of one-off instances of threadjacking in your threads, whether they are in the network community or in the log community or in your inbox?
Yes!
Are you open to your character getting things they wouldn’t like?
Not into Kal receiving kryptonite at this time, sorry.
Are you open to your character getting things that have a risk of either giving them a buff or giving them a debuff, one form or another?
Yes!
** I indicated both Clark and Kal's tastes depending on which version of him the spirits would be approaching. Definitely thinking of this being a "one or the other" scenario rather than them approaching both in two separate instances, LOL.

Has your character interacted with spirits positively or negatively during their time in Beacon?
Boooooooth. He killed a shit-ton of 'em during the siege event, but has also done a lot of communicating with them. Killing them, being cute with Owl Friend, dealing with annoyances. I've made IC notes that the little porcupine-spined one has been trying to steal his knives (and give them back) for like months since that event. Tries to communicate with any spirit he comes across, almost, using Morse Code.
Has your character done anything of note during their time?
See spirit interactions, tbh. Those are the biggest things for him. Everything else has been fairly personal.
Does your character have something about them that stands out?
Metal arm, always armed to the teeth, general lack of chill, Morse Code translating
Where does your character like to go during the ‘day’?
He has a set routine.
Are you open to there being bouts of one-off threadjacking in your threads, whether they are in the network community or in the log community or in your inbox?
Oh please do that sounds hilarious.
Are you open to your character getting things they won’t like?
Of course. He will still keep it (probably) and put it in his Chest O'Cool Stuff.
Are you open to your character getting things that have a risk of either giving them a buff or giving them a debuff, one form or another?
Sure?
no subject
What are things your character likes?
Machinery, tools, books about human history, work gloves, shaving kits
What are things your character dislikes?
Earth. Old tech that doesn't work. Sweets.
Has your character interacted with spirits positively or negatively during their time in Beacon?
Ashford has not had any particular spirit encounters yet.
Has your character done anything of note during their time?
Aside from nearly getting himself killed by Rosinante during the lights out event nothing that is game wide significant.
Does your character have something about them that stands out?
About a third of his body is covered in burn scars (from right side of face down his torso and arm), he has a very heavy distinctive Belter creole accent, and wears a uniform with the OPA logo that includes a belt with tools and a gun holster.
Where does your character like to go during the ‘day’?
Depends on the day. He does a lot of rummaging through the stores or being at home tinkering with things he finds. He also roams a lot to observe or take notes of things and people. And of course he enjoys going for a drink.
Are you open to there being bouts of one-off threadjacking in your threads, whether they are in the network community or in the log community or in your inbox?
Absolutely

What are things your character likes?
Umeboshi, leafy greens, sea-themed things, whiskey, cigarettes, makeup, adventure novels, guns, stars
What are things your character dislikes?
Bread, pizza, injustice, criminality, cologne
Has your character interacted with spirits positively or negatively during their time in Beacon?
Mostly neutral except that he's killed a lot of them during various attacks, especially after connecting the lighthouse and also during the dreamer event. Big chain-draggy spirit and pumpkin headed spirit have met him briefly, will try to find links when not on mobile. Generally he distrusts the spirits and lets others interact with them.
Has your character done anything of note during their time?
Linked up Robin to the network with Five (and Winters and the others), fished up a seafoam clone, helped Mary paint the Invincible, built a bridge, helped discover Downtown, generally on top of keeping supplies organized at the general store every month and maintains the star charts of Beacon's night sky.
Does your character have something about them that stands out?
TALL and also very clumsy. Always smoking.
Where does your character like to go during the ‘day’?
The Invincible, the library, the harbor. Will soon be spending time downtown more now that it's opened up.
Are you open to there being bouts of one-off threadjacking in your threads, whether they are in the network community or in the log community or in your inbox?

What are things your character likes?
comic books, art and drawing, sword fighting, heights
What are things your character dislikes?
open water, super enclosed spaces, bullies
Has your character interacted with spirits positively or negatively during their time in Beacon?
Fairly positive. He participates in most events that the spirits put together -- made a show at the feast even if he didn't eat, helped make lanterns, collected some knitted stuff, and sent lanterns out during the "For Everything a Reason" event.
Also, I need to do more with this information: here
Most recent spirit interactions.
Has your character done anything of note during their time?
Probably setting up the patrol schedule and the games of capture the flag (which he gave one of the flags to a random spirit...I have just now decided this same spirit is one that is helping him with the bulletin board). Most of the spirits I picture him hanging out with also tend to have bird-masks.
Does your character have something about them that stands out?
As previously mentioned, the spirits can apparently smell the demigodness of his nature. He can also fly and shoot lightning. Also he is tall boy.
Where does your character like to go during the ‘day’?
He does patrols, he hangs around the Invincible and the Bonfire, he visits the ice cream vendor, he goes to the weapon/combat training classes, he likes to hang out on the roof of buildings sometimes.
Are you open to there being bouts of one-off threadjacking in your threads, whether they are in the network community or in the log community or in your inbox?

yes.
Are you open to your character getting things that have a risk of either giving them a buff or giving them a debuff, one form or another?

What are things your character likes?
Laws, office supplies, cleaning supplies, music, anything that makes him feel more confident in himself, handmade crafts, books
What are things your character dislikes?
Messiness, dangerous objects (like stuff that can explode), toys or objects that would require him to interact with other people
Has your character interacted with spirits positively or negatively during their time in Beacon?
Somewhat negative? Like in the TDM, he'd scold spirits that tried to bother people and be able to carry some of the smaller ones to a corner to think about what they've done: usually if they were messing up on of the public buildings or playing pranks.
Has your character done anything of note during their time?
Not much apart from inspecting buildings and reorganizing stuff in the library.
Does your character have something about them that stands out?
He's a giant green robot.
Where does your character like to go during the ‘day’?
He likes to walk through the downtown area and village checking out the area, then taking a break to read through the Autobot Code and fill out spreadsheets.
