EVENT INFO: THE NIGHT WE MET

EVENT INFO: THE NIGHT WE MET
the lore part
For most of the day on February 16, all of the town's forest spirits can be found along the stretch of road between downtown and the harbor, clearly setting up for, uh, something. They're piling snow onto the pathway, creating a miles long sled trail that starts outside the Landmark Inn and ends at the very end of the harbor's dock. Not only that, but the forest spirits are also not super willing to explain what they're up to! They're busy, you lantern-havers.
By the time evening rolls around, the spirits have set up wooden railings alongside the snowy path, as well as a warming tent, hot chocolate booth, and announcer stand outside of the Landmark. Oh, and a starting banner for the race! It's dogsled time!
Throughout the event, Beacon's downtown and harbor areas will be completely overrun with forest spirits, all there to bear witness to this holiday celebration—this holiday is for them, though, not you weirdos with your naked faces. Point is, none of the spirits will be hostile at this time! They're more interested in interacting with each other than with Beacon's residents, though if pressed, a kind spirit might be willing to explain what's going on:
The aurora arrives in Beacon for about a week each year, and the forest spirits believe it to be "friends in the sky". The lights are old friends of theirs, it seems! And each night while the aurora shines above the town, the forest spirits send off a handful of friends to join the aurora! The spirits ready to join the aurora build sleds of their own and assemble mighty sled teams, sometimes comprised of dog spirits and sometimes... other stuff. Then, when the aurora is at its peak in the wee hours of the night, the sled teams will ride off one by one, racing down the snow-covered path all the way down to the harbor, where they'll finally rocket off the dock and out over the lake, picking up more and more speed as each team gallops wildly over the water before arcing up into the sky. Once the spirits are barely a speck, they'll hit the aurora and burst into a shower of light. Beautiful stuff!
See, since the aurora is made of light, forest spirits launched into it are killed on impact! Isn't that wonderful! The forest spirits seem to think so! What is death to a dead thing!
All of this information can be learned through handwaved/played-led interactions with the forest spirits during the event. They'll all be focused on saying goodbye to their friends and cheering them on as they stream through the sky, but they're happy to welcome lantern-havers to join in the celebrations. The hot chocolate is free and only tastes a little bit like mud, so. Enjoy!
Even if you're not interested in the forest spirits' holiday, the arrival of the aurora will give you plenty to celebrate on your own. This is the most light Beacon has had since the game opened in July, as the green glow of the aurora is nearly as bright as an overcast day. Bask in the constant near-daylight for those six days, everyone!
...Oh, and it's a memory sharing event!
the memshare part
As the aurora dances over Beacon and forest spirits explode into shooting stars overhead, meteorites will rain down from the aurora. They're not technically meteorites, but you get the picture. They're opals! If a person closes their hand around one of these rocks, they'll experience the memory locked inside...
According to the forest spirits, the aurora is made up of their old friends, friends that have moved on to another stage in their existence and have had to leave them behind. The memories dropped by the aurora will focus on a person or people that each character has left behind by ending up in Beacon. You are free to interpret this stipulation however you like! The person left behind can be a friend or enemy, alive or dead, etc. The idea is that this event will remind characters of those they have left behind in death, in whatever way that most resonates with them.
Opals can look however you like, and they'll be turning up at random all over town! There's no way to determine the "owner" of the opal without peeking at the memory inside, unfortunately, and on top of that, while the aurora is active, the opals are bit tetchier than usual. During the event, touching an opal in any way might trigger the memory sharing. If your character wouldn't ICly partake in memories but you still want them to share stuff/see other people's stuff, there you go! There's your excuse!
When the event ends and the aurora fades, the opals will stick around, and they'll continue to be functional! Feel free to stock up on memory opals to do memory sharing stuff down the road. They're multi-use, and there aren't any drawbacks to using them.•••
For those of you interested in plot stuff, we'll be doling out random events throughout the week, so sign up below if you'd like a chance to receive one! These random events will include things like forest spirit encounters and happening upon opals belonging to NPCs. There's nothing dangerous about it—we're just doing sign-ups so we know who's interested in having us bug them! These random events will be posted either to characters' inboxes or to their toplevels on the event page. You're welcome to sign up even if you aren't planning to toplevel at the event.
Check out the header below and fill out the form to sign up! We'll be prioritizing new players and players who haven't yet had a shot at neat plot stuff, but everyone is welcome to toss their hat in the ring.•••
Additionally, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:
the tl;dr
- February 16-21: The forest spirits send off their pals on dogsled journeys into the aurora! Memory opals rain down throughout Beacon.
- The town is super bright (by Beacon standards) throughout the event! It's like overcast levels of light.
- Each memory opal contains a memory belonging to someone in Beacon, and the memory is focused on a person they have left behind by dying.
- The opals will stick around after the event ends! They can be reused to your heart's content.

character(s): Misty
plans: Beyond certainty Soldat and probably Sora will be getting something, hardly any at all. Misty doesn't have anybody she misses and her life...kind of sucks, so having to think about it/revisit it/see other people's memories will have her in a pretty quietly bitter mood. There might be some proactive effort to dig everywhere in the hopes of finding all of hers and like, dumping them in the bonfire, but beyond that just quiet sad seething.
Memories off the top of my head would be something like...
- A lot of middle school fist fights? Pretty much? Tiny brawler.
- Fishing with her dad, one of like three wholesome memories basically.
- Being burned at the stake, that old chestnut. Sort of colors the distance she's keeping from people, hm?
- Killing poachers and resurrecting alligators. Look at those cool resurrection powers she used to have, and also how stone cold ready she is to kill in defense of The Innocent(TM).
- Meeting Zoe and Kyle, by which I mean 'a deeply distressed and nonverbal zombie thrashes and wails in the passenger seat of a car speeding along, while a witch at the wheel panics and cries and apologizes, and Misty, maniac that she is, waits for a pause in conversation that allows her to insert herself before revealing she's just been there for most of this, what do you mean don't jumpscare people DRIVING the CAR
- Madison's resurrection, honestly just for peak.....'wow this is powerful but kinda gross' energy.
- Turning the coven down in favor of heading back to her Isolation Shack
- The first bit of the sacred taking, because I still love 'I don't want to be the Supreme' to tears
- Taking a brick to the head when she's not looking and being buried alive! Fun! Kind of colors the distance she's keeping, hm?
- Tentatively, it'd depend on a given character's reaction, but if you're really looking to get to the heart of something there's the hell stuff + meeting the antichrist
- Also! Stevie Nicks! Almost forgot! Only other happy one(s)! She fains! It's very endearing!
- Brief, but that 'smell a decaying soul since I was a child' line, because I don't know if she's ever yet brought up that she, uh, has a read on your soul! Yes, you!
notes: New cr would be good, either looting her memory or having her pick up something of your muse's. She needs to be forced out there and this is as handy an excuse to rip off a couple of bandaids and force...something as any.

tbh I think either way would work, with regard to who gets whose memory. they unfortunately have a lot in common, what with the whole "dying multiple times" thing. and while I'm canonblind to coven, "powerful but kinda gross" also sounds pretty up there.

I am here for trading deaths/ability use! The latter's mostly just stripping Misty of any deniability + convincing her he's trustworthy to discuss them with, but ayyy multi-death club needs to sit somberly and trade back rocks. Which, hm. I imagine Misty's miffed enough about the whole thing that she'd try and return his once she recognized him?
no subject
... though misty is still welcome to be the one who initiates the giving back, since he'd be tempted to just keep hers for reference fjldsj

You'd best (ง'̀-'́)ง relinquish (ง'̀-'́)ง the opal (ง'̀-'́)ง pardner
(this is hilarious and flattering, danke Gregor)

you gonna fight him for it???please don't he is very tired. he'll give it back if she's, like, there. just, you know, if no one was going to claim it...no subject
No stealing trade secrets, Gregor. You wanna shop talk you ask!!

by which I mean I dunno Sora she'll check-in for a nice Disney thing but anything of hers is gonna be YIKES

does misty wanna go see halloween town? OH MY GOD I CAN GIVE SORA SANTA CLAUS BACK!! She could also see something kind of soothing, like the one world that's basically just classical music or, you know, the KH equivalent to death, which is actually a really nice and pretty place? sky's the limit here

(OR THE POST-HELL 'I DON'T KNOW WHERE I AM ANYMORE', WHICH IS A THING THAT DESPERATELY NEEDS TO COME UP IN GENERAL.)
She's very resigned to death as some kind of 'many options but all of them are horrible nothing good actually exists' so a peaceful death would 10/10 fuck her up in a pleasant way! Also Halloween Town because I'm weak and she deserves to see a skele-dog

(POST HELL IDK WHERE THE FUCK IS ALSO VERY GOOD)
oh man she'll love the final world!! it's just a very calming sky over a beautiful flat clear stretch of water with the sparkling remains of lonely souls waiting to be joined by their loved ones so they can disappear in peace, it's very peaceful and she can honestly just zone out there and maybe listen to the souls talk to themselves about the people they loved
(SHE DOES DESERVE TO SEE SKELEDOG i will write up a halloweentown memory asap!! she'll also get to see that sora's mysterious wizard teacher slash babysitter is a giant talking duck hahaha)

He has context and security clearance enough I think he can find hell on his own! That will surely be a ! Good talk to have! And probably Stevie Nicks, since both are conveniently clippable and :c he needs a happy to counteract a sad. (And the Stevie one namedrops/reeks of weird witch politics and that's an easy in for more past-talks, which is good!)
Everything with them basically, as is tradition.

Actually, that's a very strong meeting! Returning things of one's own volition is a solid way to earn Misty Points, and chiller memories definitely result in less hastily thrown up walls. Happy is more or less just Meeting Stevie Nicks vs Fishing, so if there's any preference there I'm all ears! On the off chance there would be like, a vibe you'd aim for.
no subject
I don't really have a vibe per say but I was thinking of something less intense or something that will lead to just a relatively cool conversation, if that makes sense lol.
