EVENT INFO: THE NIGHT WE MET
the lore part
For most of the day on February 16, all of the town's forest spirits can be found along the stretch of road between downtown and the harbor, clearly setting up for, uh, something. They're piling snow onto the pathway, creating a miles long sled trail that starts outside the Landmark Inn and ends at the very end of the harbor's dock. Not only that, but the forest spirits are also not super willing to explain what they're up to! They're busy, you lantern-havers.
By the time evening rolls around, the spirits have set up wooden railings alongside the snowy path, as well as a warming tent, hot chocolate booth, and announcer stand outside of the Landmark. Oh, and a starting banner for the race! It's dogsled time!
Throughout the event, Beacon's downtown and harbor areas will be completely overrun with forest spirits, all there to bear witness to this holiday celebration—this holiday is for them, though, not you weirdos with your naked faces. Point is, none of the spirits will be hostile at this time! They're more interested in interacting with each other than with Beacon's residents, though if pressed, a kind spirit might be willing to explain what's going on:
The aurora arrives in Beacon for about a week each year, and the forest spirits believe it to be "friends in the sky". The lights are old friends of theirs, it seems! And each night while the aurora shines above the town, the forest spirits send off a handful of friends to join the aurora! The spirits ready to join the aurora build sleds of their own and assemble mighty sled teams, sometimes comprised of dog spirits and sometimes... other stuff. Then, when the aurora is at its peak in the wee hours of the night, the sled teams will ride off one by one, racing down the snow-covered path all the way down to the harbor, where they'll finally rocket off the dock and out over the lake, picking up more and more speed as each team gallops wildly over the water before arcing up into the sky. Once the spirits are barely a speck, they'll hit the aurora and burst into a shower of light. Beautiful stuff!
See, since the aurora is made of light, forest spirits launched into it are killed on impact! Isn't that wonderful! The forest spirits seem to think so! What is death to a dead thing!
All of this information can be learned through handwaved/played-led interactions with the forest spirits during the event. They'll all be focused on saying goodbye to their friends and cheering them on as they stream through the sky, but they're happy to welcome lantern-havers to join in the celebrations. The hot chocolate is free and only tastes a little bit like mud, so. Enjoy!
Even if you're not interested in the forest spirits' holiday, the arrival of the aurora will give you plenty to celebrate on your own. This is the most light Beacon has had since the game opened in July, as the green glow of the aurora is nearly as bright as an overcast day. Bask in the constant near-daylight for those six days, everyone!
...Oh, and it's a memory sharing event!
the memshare part
As the aurora dances over Beacon and forest spirits explode into shooting stars overhead, meteorites will rain down from the aurora. They're not technically meteorites, but you get the picture. They're opals! If a person closes their hand around one of these rocks, they'll experience the memory locked inside...
According to the forest spirits, the aurora is made up of their old friends, friends that have moved on to another stage in their existence and have had to leave them behind. The memories dropped by the aurora will focus on a person or people that each character has left behind by ending up in Beacon. You are free to interpret this stipulation however you like! The person left behind can be a friend or enemy, alive or dead, etc. The idea is that this event will remind characters of those they have left behind in death, in whatever way that most resonates with them.
Opals can look however you like, and they'll be turning up at random all over town! There's no way to determine the "owner" of the opal without peeking at the memory inside, unfortunately, and on top of that, while the aurora is active, the opals are bit tetchier than usual. During the event, touching an opal in any way might trigger the memory sharing. If your character wouldn't ICly partake in memories but you still want them to share stuff/see other people's stuff, there you go! There's your excuse!
When the event ends and the aurora fades, the opals will stick around, and they'll continue to be functional! Feel free to stock up on memory opals to do memory sharing stuff down the road. They're multi-use, and there aren't any drawbacks to using them.•••

There's nothing dangerous about it—we're just doing sign-ups so we know who's interested in having us bug them! These random events will be posted either to characters' inboxes or to their toplevels on the event page. You're welcome to sign up even if you aren't planning to toplevel at the event.

the tl;dr
- February 16-21: The forest spirits send off their pals on dogsled journeys into the aurora! Memory opals rain down throughout Beacon.
- The town is super bright (by Beacon standards) throughout the event! It's like overcast levels of light.
- Each memory opal contains a memory belonging to someone in Beacon, and the memory is focused on a person they have left behind by dying.
- The opals will stick around after the event ends! They can be reused to your heart's content.

i kind of feel like JUST FOR THAT COMMENT you deserve to get the memory of the time that aunt may was going to marry doc ock. because may had like, inherited a nuclear power plant? and dock ock wanted it? comics are fucking wild.
or you could get the memory of the time that doc ock went all INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS on petey-boy and no-one fucking noticed, despite the fact that peter was suddenly going around yelling things like THE DIE IS CAST and punching the scorpion's jaw off.

omggggg I FORGOT DOCK OCK DOES THIS. kol's just fresh off of inhabiting someone else's body for a while (and then... dying... so kind of killing that dude, too, #yikes but #notreally #serialkiller) so maybe body snatchers would be super good because i think this could be a super unique experience! and if it's something peter still thinks about... well, he's got kol who couldn't even be in his own body (this hot bod was ash for a while) and it might even make kol realise "hey, the dude's body i was shoved into... he had feelings, too." he could also maybe give a bit of a perspective of being the one doing the body snatching.
not that we forgive dock ock. weddings are expensive, wtf kind of option is this. (not that... he tried to wed may in peter's body. i just made this weird. i'm pressing submit.)

OH MAN i had no idea kol ... did something like that... or was forced into something like that... BUT YEAH, technically peter died? ended up in ock's (dying) body, which then died. then he haunted SpOck (spidey-ock. spock. fandom, u cool) via the power of Memories! and Emotions! until ock was like 'nah fam this is TOO MUCH, STOP'
before realising that actually, the power of Love and Friendship would save the day after all (or, like, just regular spandex).
so what i'm saying here is "yes, i agree, this could be an interesting and unique character experience from both sides", because whilst (from peter's perspective) otto is now trying to be a good guy, he's still otto octavius and peter definitely has a knee-jerk reaction to the idea of body snatching (versus, you know, anyone that does that being really fucking desperate).
(and to end this on a thematic note: ock has recently made a deal with the devil. which devil? the one that peter sold his marriage too. you're welcome.)

omg let's do it! tl;dr kol was brought back to life and put in the body of someone else by his mom (who was also resurrected in someone's body and his older brother was also in someone's body… there was a lot of bodyjacking going on here) so that she could pretty much kill kol's vampiric brothers and sister by making them mortal (she made them into vampires and then instantly updated her facebook status to "sudden regret"). kol enjoyed being in this body because he had access to magic (yay!!) but he died in it because big bro finn didn't appreciate kol's charm and craftiness and sentenced him to die via hex. 8(
now he is in his hot bod because of a powerful ritual. everyone lives happily ever after.
kol was never really shown to be thinking about the guy whose body he was renting (probably because it didn't fit any narrative) so it'd be interesting to make him actually realise, you know, he took someone else on a joy ride and maybe that wasn't actually nice. he likes peter; peter saying that it wasn't great and how it felt would make kol reflect on how he took someone else's life for a spin. he's been trying to change from his "lets kill everyone" ways so that would make him question his entitlement to that body.
maybe he should've felt a bit bad about it...
