EVENT INFO: WE ALL STILL DIE

EVENT INFO: WE ALL STILL DIE
the basics
Part 1:
From June 14-15, the forest spirits provide materials for everyone to make and decorate masks of their own, and provide a variety of simple handmade instruments. They encourage everyone to participate and have fun!
Part 2:
On June 16, the festival begins with a voluntary sacrifice by some of the forest spirits, and those who wish to partake in their consumption are encouraged to do so. Characters who are wearing masks or who have consumed any spirit-stuff begin to succumb to their inner urges to go feral, to give in to violence, and to join The Parade and act as a part of that roving band of merriment and bloodshed. On June 18 the effects subside.
the details
Part 1:
On the "morning" of June 14, residents of Beacon will find that the spirits are setting up for one of the parties they occasionally throw. Crafting materials of moss, bark, branches, some of May's new flowers, braided grassy twine, what was left of the paints in the general store, and all sorts of other items (looks like someone raided the pawn shop and put plastic toys on one table) are available for making masks!
Through mime, charades, and hoot-peeps the spirits manage to convey that this is a celebration they learned from past Beacon residents - a festival for welcoming back the sun is supposed to happen around this time of year, right? Something like that, plus everyone seems so optimistic now that lanterns can be repaired again.
The lack of ferry resupplies means the spirits have gotten creative and provided pan pipes out of grasses and flutes out of hollowed-out branches. All sorts of basic instruments are around or can be made, and the spirits are ready to rope people into impromptu jam sessions at any moment. What a great time!
Part 2:
On June 16, after two whole days to make your masks and practice your instruments, it's time for the revelry to kick into high gear! Eager to do this exciting sun festival the right way, three spirits stand before all the rest on the beach by the harbor. Somewhat reminiscent of the aurora, these three show no hesitation as they sing and cheer and kneel so that a trio of spirits with long, knife-like talons can very abruptly eviscerate them.
Dark, viscous liquid and chunks of spirit-flesh are collected into buckets and some characters who were victims of previous torture may find this all-too familiar. But all of you came through that fine, right? This offering is provided for all who wish to partake, but it is not forced upon anyone. Some of the spirits seem a little conflicted and have a polite sip, while others dig in. It only seems fair that trying to bring back the sun should come with a cost. Thankfully, only having a little taste does not seem to make anyone horribly ill as has happened occasionally in the past when large quantities were consumed.
Throughout the 16th and 17th, changes will slowly occur in characters who have taken part in any of the festivities. The more a character has participated, the more they will change, but their ability to fight their sudden urges is up to you.
Characters will begin to feel compelled to act on their baser, animalistic, and often violent instincts. This can be as subtle as having no filter at first and simply saying whatever comes to mind, but over the course of the second part of the event, they may find themselves descending into aggression toward their friends, loss of intelligible language as they turn toward spirit-like grunts and howls and chirps, increased appetite, and finally they may find themselves filled with an insatiable thirst for violence.
Characters who have consumed spirit flesh in the past through events such as the force-feeding during Wild Heart, or just because they wanted to eat a spirit and find out what happens, will also feel affected as if they had consumed any of the sacrifice in this event. π
The spirits will try to herd everyone together and keep the music going, and so affected characters may also feel compelled to take up their instruments, or hum and sing, as they all dance toward The Parade. Several options can occur here:
- Compelled characters may try to convince others to sing and dance with them if they look like they're resisting, or if they're far gone they may outright attack anyone who doesn't party with them (and the Parade spirits are all too eager to help!).
- Compelled characters may in fact dance and party themselves to death by the 18th, if they get too caught up in the madness - otherwise they will drop from exhaustion as their lanterns finally dim.
- Characters who try to resist all of this will find themselves at war with their baser instincts - will they fight back if someone comes to pull them into the Parade, or will they try to pull their friends out despite the madness that has overtaken them?
At any point in Part 2, spirits may enter and leave from threads under a SPIRITS header. Anyone who posts top-levels under this header should not expect a thread directly with a spirit, but rather, this means you are open to spirits doing a bit of threadjacking. Please note that this also means you are willing to accept serious injury or death as a result of these interactions. Spirits will be drawn from an RNG pool and some will be more dangerous than others, but all will be very upset if you're not having The Most Fun, and we know how spirits get when they're offended.
Good news, though! Because lantern repairs are now able to be completed, deaths are not permanent. So have fun. Go feral. Live a little, die a little. It's what we do here.β’β’β’
As always, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:
the tl;dr
- June 14-15: Mask- and music-making fun!
- June 16-17: Characters descend into madness, violence, and revelry as they join The Parade or do their best to resist the compulsion
- June 18: The effects gradually end, dancers drop from exhaustion, hopefully some of you are still alive

QUESTIONS

Is this allowed? In a plot like this would it make a black hole?
no subject
But Ardyn is perfectly welcome to roam around as a mass of miasma and be very dark and spooky! If you have further questions on how the details of how any of this would work, please do ask.
no subject
They'd attack anyone except Ardyn, they'd ignore him since he already REEKS of being one of 'em.

Rosinante
character(s): Rosinante
plans: Rosi here is going to try to resist once he realizes what's happening, but I sure don't want that to be easy for him. Come at me if you want any part of this madness whether it's trying to resist alongside him, trying with him to help hold people back from joining in with the Parade, him failing at resisting and attacking his friends, or if you want to try to coax him back to his normal mental state somehow. I do expect he will attack people and be a big mean brute because that's not something he does hardly ever, and the fact that he can do so while completely silent is fucked up if you like jumpscares.
Of course he'll feel awful afterward and there's always that angle if you also did some things you regret, or want to reassure him you don't hate him.
Probably not looking to kill him yet again. I'm gonna wait on that. Maybe next month, he's overdue, just not right now.

character(s): Masaomi Kida
plans: Insert high pitched cackling here.
Okay. Masaomi was force-fed spirit bits during Wild Heart, so he's gonna be going feral here. BUT. He is also extremely not okay with any of this on an instinctual level. The Parade means death, and eating spirits is directly associated with pain in his mind. So this is how things are going to go.
During the 16th and 17th, he's going to get angrier and angrier, letting out all the frustration and hatred he holds back on the regular. If I toplevel, I'll probably have a "pick your potency" style dealio where anyone responding can choose whether they want mild, spicy, or ghost pepper Masaomi.
When the spirits start herding everyone together for a musical march, Masaomi will take the third option. He will react violently if anyone tries to pull him into the parade, and if anyone wants him to drag their character out of it, I can offer him up for that too. Because he can't completely defeat his baser instincts, however, his methods for saving people could be almost as messed up as the Parade itself. Let's hash out something awful!
notes: I am a-okay with Masaomi dying and/or killing other characters.
no subject
Duster might pull Masaomi into the Parade and suffer for it.
no subject
Do you have any specific suffering you'd like to play? Or shall Masaomi just lash out at him with a knife or crowbar?

character: javert
plans: javert's not going to participate in the celebration, and since he hasn't eaten any spirits, he's not going to be affected by the compulsion. that being said, he will be trying to pull people out of the parade and get into a few scuffles with the spirits (and residents) which will likely get him injured. he won't hold it against you if you harm him. he was compelled to hurt people, too, as a side effect of using the hint machine, so he gets it! if anyone needs to get patched up after the event, he can do that too.
notes: not looking for him to get killed, but i'm okay with him being injured or injuring someone.

character: Ardyn Izunia
plans: Ardyn snacked on a spirit which means he'll be a roaming mass of demon goo. He will attempt to daemonify and consume other characters or simply daemonify them and turn them loose. If you are interested in your character dying and having their memories glimpsed by Ardyn OR having your character turned into a monster hit me up! He will probably not be targeting spirits because they make him sick and I literally just played that out (some other time!)
Ardyn's miasma deepens the shadows around him and devours light, including lantern light. People who were at the Landmark may notice this familiar weirdness if they're close to him.
character: Link
plans: Link will NOT participate in the celebration and will not be going mad but he'll try to pull people out of harm's away, including dragging them away from the Parade.
notes: none but let me know if you have questions.

Which take on many sorts of appearances and sizes. Behavior-wise they can be wild monsters but recently turned daemons may have aspects of their former selves and still have the same obsessions or be aware enough to know they're becoming monsters and can't control their actions.
Basically it's player's choice, you have wiggle room to really do what you want with it!

character(s): Minimus Ambus
plans: Minimus can't eat meat and he dislikes parties. He's not going to be participating if he can help it. So that means someone will have to try to get the robot with super strength to party until he realizes that the Parade is here and will try to pull people away from it.
He might make a mask, though.
notes: I'm fine with Minimus getting hurt! I'm open to having him killed but let me know beforehand to plan it out.
no subject
character(s): Nara
plans: Duster has eaten the spirit meat so he's going to be caught up in the parade! He'll make one mask at the least and join in on making music at the start, so me might dance himself to death/exhaustion or be hurt in the process, who knows. And his arm just finished healing, so this is just another bad event in his stay here.
notes: Open to being killed/injured
no subject
character(s): elektra natchios and megara
plans: elektra has been force fed spirit meat while kidnapped, so she's going to end up participating and i'd love the opportunity for her to get into fights, dance to exhaustion, become absolutely horrified at what's happening, etc. she's going to resist it as long as she can and people are welcome to attempt to stop her or fight with her in the process. maybe she'll die for the first time, who knows?
megara will probably not be partaking in any spirit eating, but she'll try to stop people from doing all the stuff elektra's getting into.
notes: elektra is an extremely skilled fighter and will likely not be holding back, but i won't have her do anything that anyone's not okay with to any of their characters. i'm also open to both being injured or killed.

character: Bucky/Soldat
plans: Bucky is Sir Not Appearing In This Event, he's gonna maybe show up for masks, go "nope" pretty quickly, show up for party, go "nope" even more quickly, and note weird violent tendencies and then go lock himself in his room or something. I am open to one (1) person maybe getting the something snappish and angry at them before he bolts, and then he's staying nice and safe out of reach until he's sure he's not going to go all Asset on Beacon and kill everyone =/
character: Stone
plans: He'll make a mask and show up for the event, but not eat anything because look, cannibalism is a thing the enemies of his people did and it's wrong. He's gonna stay pretty sane throughout and be around to pick people up in winged form if they need it.
notes: Game for killing Stone if anyone really wants to off an old man
dragon, but Bucky won't be coming near enough to anybody for that.no subject
character(s): Pudding
plans: I WAS LITERALLY JUST LAMENTING HOW LONG IT MIGHT TAKE ME TO GET TO USE ALL THESE GOOD CRAZYFACE ICONS IN GAME...
Pudding's going off the deep end. She's been Trying To Be Better in Beacon after your usual shounen heel-face-turn but she is canonically just horrible when the nicey-nice comes off. This also includes stabbing people with kitchen knives and possibly using her percussion revolver if there's ammo to be had. She's fucking terrible and everyone's gonna know it.
(Though of course, afterward, she will just have been horribly affected by this terrible thing that made everyone terrible to each other!! She's not really like that at all!!!!!!)
I'm thinking of her being all-in on masks, and then getting like... the worst kind of morbidly curious about the, um, offerings - between being dead being the only reason she has this life, the knowledge that maybe they're already made out of spirit parts anyway, her own mother being a literal cannibal... you know, just fun anime things.
notes: SORRY TO EVERYONE WAITING ON TAGS I have literally been under the weather, the rash of thunderstorms has put me out with barometric migraines. Tentatively returning?
I expect her to die. Horribly. I expect her to take people with her, if possible. Lmk if you want your character to be stabbed / shot / danced to death / mocked mercilessly for any memories she might rip out of their heads to play with like a cat...

character(s): carmilla karnstein & matt murdock
plans: carmilla. as someone who has consumed spirit, she is going to be compelled by the parade. more or less, she just wants to dance and have fun and make out a little, though indulge her too much and she might just bite. i don't necessarily intend to lean into her violent side BUT if you want to, let me know. maybe if someone tries to pull her out of the parade??? but she doesn't have many friends left standing and the few that kinda like her seem like they'll be partying, too. BUTTT if you want your char fucked up and need someone to do it, she is here and ready!!! she might die this event, but maybe i'll just let her party and wake up dazed after.
matt. he might have a mask but he's not wearing it and won't feel any compulsion to join the parade. so if you need someone to try and intervene, he will. while it hasn't been decided exactly how it will go down, i think he's going to die trying to save elektra somehow. before then, he's available for daring rescues or just being the fun police. what a dick tbh
notes: i am on hiatus due to class overload and an upcoming vacation but i'd like to do a thread or two each w my two! matt will do something w elektra but that leaves one for him and 2 for carm so let me know if you want something with mine!!

character(s): Fitz Kreiner
plans: Look I know I haven't been around with him but I assure you he's been poking around the junkyard and making something like this so he's got an instrument! And he's not one to dodge a party so sure, mask-making is a thing. And while he's at it he may as well have some food though that will be much more reluctantly. Anyway. Nihlistic, snappish, the good thing is if there's physical violence he's a human twig so can be pretty easily thwarted. IDK.
notes: LMK if you'd rather not deal with angry feral Fitz, otherwise....yeah.
