GAMEPLAN: DECEMBER

GAMEPLAN: DECEMBER

Hey all! We have some important announcements in the OOC section of this post, so make sure not to skip it. Also, if you haven't posted to the November Activity Check, please do so soon! Meanwhile, read on to see what's coming up in-game for the month.

DECEMBER 1-12

As usual, on December 1 we have the arrival of any items ordered through the portal. Don't forget to make your requests by the end of the month! This is a great time to think up some gifts if you come from a world or culture that celebrates various gift-giving winter holidays, after all. Just cross your fingers that the request goes through as intended!

A new TDM will also go up on December 1. As a reminder, these now take the place of the intro logs - so all players, current or potential or otherwise, are welcome to toplevel and tag on TDM prompts. From December 1-12, the portal appears to be acting strangely all sorts of people temporarily appear - in a mini-fourth wall event! Do you have alternate character journals who might be fun to play in Beacon for just a week or so? Friends interested in checking out the setting and meeting Beacon's residents? The TDM is of course always open to anyone who wants to tag in, but we'll have a couple of prompts specifically encouraging this, so jump on in and enjoy! And for those unfamiliar with what a fourth wall event might entail, or curious about how that even works in Beacon, we'll make sure it's clear on the TDM post itself - or feel free to ask questions below.

Then, on December 8, you'll be hearing from the network of spirits that have their eyes and ears on the world around you in an NPC network post. Something is lurking just outside town, and farther away, something big is on the move...

DECEMBER 12-31

On December 12, the weather turns strange. The change of season has already been marked by trace snow flurries in the past few days, but while walking to and from various places in town, you might find yourself caught in a whiteout. The winds swirl harshly and tiny crystalline fragments of ice are caught in its pull, surrounding you and reflecting your lantern light so brightly that you can hardly see your own hands held out before you. Will you stay put? Will you try and wander your way to safety? The whiteouts end after a few minutes, leaving snowy spirals on the ground around you - and possibly leaving you somewhere unexpected. How will you find your way back? Can the people of Beacon come together to think up some sort of safety net?

The whiteouts last through December 17. Unlike most weather events, this one will come with an event log post - for there is more to it than just strange weather, if those footprints in the snow are any indication.

ooc news

Hey folks, a couple announcements, as promised. First, once again, thanks to Kitty and Carlee for everything they've done as mods. They will now be moving on, leaving Lauren and Yuul in charge of steering the ship. Given the pace of the GPSL at present, we've decided not to take on additional mods but if that changes, we'll be sure to let you all know.

Second, December's AC will be check-in only. Holidays are a busy time! We will still require people to check in, but AC will run a few extra days through January 4, so that nobody (mods included) is required to be sitting at the computer on New Year's Even stressing about posting things.

Third, it's time we start planning for an endgame. The December TDM will be the last TDM posted, although applications will remain open at least through February. While dates can still be a little bit flexible based on character actions, we are currently eyeing an endgame event potentially for March, with any epilogue/follow-up posts to occur throughout April. This will mean a full year's run for TNN after the original closure of ITN, which feels appropriate and well within the timeframe originally planned for the full story.

This means characters will really need to get moving on enacting their desired plans. We know how hard that can be to organize, though, so once again, feel free to start outlining things in the comments here. ICly, characters will be made aware that they need to get a move on during this month's NPC post, and hopefully a few months is plenty of time to organize and act. Characters currently have all the tools needed for several different options, and now just need to decide if they want to kill the World Eater using bombs, try to bail to another world and save themselves, try and trap the World Eater and somehow send it somewhere else, or possibly other ideas - but those three are the main ones we have seen discussed. Because December is such a busy month IRL, we'll have another post in January summing up progress that's more targeted specifically for characters' endgame planning, but now is a great time to really start thinking about it!

•••

In the comments below, you'll find the LOOKING FOR GROUP header. If you're interested in doing any kind of exploration in the coming month, go ahead and fill out the posted form under that header, and then comment amongst yourselves to make arrangements! Of course, this isn't required—it's just another way to plot stuff with other players. Maybe you've already got a plan and want some brave souls along on the journey with you, or maybe you're just looking to toss your character into an existing group. Whatever you're interested in, feel free to hit up the LFG thread if you'd like to plot exploration stuff for the month!

As always, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:

the tl;dr

  • December 1: TDM, items

  • December 8: NPC post

  • December 12: Shivers (I've Got 'Em) event begins

  • December 17: Shivers (I've Got 'Em) event ends

  • December 22: Check-in begins

  • January 4: Check-in ends

Since Soldat is probably Helix-station-ing this month, maybe I can send Stone off to the power station. Need some techie people along for that, he's just transportation and protection. Who wants in???

player: Gail
character(s): Bucky/Soldat, Stone
plans: AWRIGHT power station. And bomb-making with Weaver. And portal research? Look Soldat still really wants to target World Eaters and send them to some kind of dead dimension where they can't hurt anybody... but he's content to blow up the one that's immediately threatening. So I imagine he's likely to go down to Helix at least once this month. Anybody else wanna come and help him out?
notes: I should be pretty consistently around despite the holidays.
callada: (no soy más que un actor)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-03 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Rosi is definitely on board with the whole bombing the world eaters plan. He obviously doesn't have the technical skills to figure out how to make something like a bomb and it sounds like they might need multiple if the old stuff coming to light is reliable, but he's a fan of explosives, what can he say. If that means venturing to Helix or the Power Station (or both, he's got an explore token) then he'll do that.

Just, you know, usual caveat that I'm gonna be writing this stuff sooooo he'll hang out and look impressive and do what people ask him to do, mostly, unless he feels strongly about something.

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-12-03 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've got an explore token, too, so we should be okay. And Weaver shooooould be starting work on the bomb, she's aware of the need for it, but she'll need that plutonium Will's looking for.

I'll try to get a plurk up tonight or tomorrow to try and organize the power station thing... so I can get an explore up once my power comes back. We've got at least a couple people who know generally where it is, right? >.>

I'm p sure we can handle the current world eater if we use the stuff we have available. Soldat is mostly worried about all the other ones out there XD
callada: (recuerdos de su condición)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-03 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, absolutely consider Weaver a resource - I'll make sure to include her on the January post that more centrally deals with endgame plans since she's got the knowledge, skills, and tools to be very useful for any sort of weapons-crafting, especially if most of Beacon agrees that's the goal they'd like to pursue. She's also trying to put together Alistair's portal stuff though so eventually she'll need to prioritize one of those two tasks depending on how people feel.

As for the power station, yeah, Rosi and Law both know almost exactly where to look for the power station - they have a map of the town from above that shows where it is. A map is not the same as wandering in pitch black woods, and the overcast sky makes it trickier than it would have been with clear skies, but unless they're horrendously unlucky they should be able to lead the way there.

player: Gemini
character(s): Cao Pi
plans: so Zihuan mentioned long ago that he knows where the bunker containing plutonium is, and now that they've got Helix stuff mostly out of the way and a bargain in place to get Alastair's portal experiment info from Weaver, he can turn his attention to said bunker. Will already warned him that they need protective gear to even approach it much less score some delicious radioactive goodness. If anyone is up for trying to get this to happen in December or at the very least prepare for it to happen in January (talk about last minute bomb-building), come at me.
notes: I have miserably failed to stay active lately but I'm gonna do my damnedest to stick this out to endgame. Please feel free to inbox Cao Pi at any time just to keep threads going or share some sort of game experience that doesn't require waiting for a log or hoping that I post another network post anytime soon.

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-02 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Okay so, as the Resident Nuclear Expert, Will's on board to help with acquiring said plutonium. He doesn't want to see Beacon get irradiated, but also they need that. With all the plans happening in december, I'm inclined to have this happen either late in the month or early january, but what do you think?
pure_havoc: (softer look)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-12-02 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes that's a good timeline for that. Like he'll be all for "let's do this as soon as we can" but shit always happens so that next week turns into next month, happens every time.

Take him with you through the portal, Will, he's already privately volunteered to Rosinante to be the test case if they reverse the portal. Either he ends up in the blender dimension or he survives, either way he's not stuck in darkness slowly turning into a mask monster.
donttalktome: (stair smoking??? idk)

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-02 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
plot twist, he ends up in a livable place but it's the literal Blender Dimension, land of the Blender People...

anyway, cool. WE GOT OURSELVES A PLAN. Will is not gonna argue with anyone who steps up to volunteer lmao
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-12-02 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
the Blender People, such a fascinating culture. Their food leaves a lot to be desired though.

YES. In general then, they'll make their plans to find this plutonium for the sake of nuking the world eater, meanwhile also go clean the station to get those portal plans, and then go from there.
donttalktome: (1)

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
actually while we're at it, did Cao Pi say publicly that he knows where the plutonium is, or is he going to ask for volunteers? and/or both
pure_havoc: (smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-12-04 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, I had to double-check lmao but yes the last time he posted to the network, in October, he laid it all out directly. they were working on the Helix plans at the time, though, so that took priority schedule-wise.

he can post again to follow up on it, that would def give me something to do.
donttalktome: (20)

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-06 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
a new post would be fine! that would give us a hub to ic discussion, too.
callada: (never once tripped over one of these)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-03 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Look, this guy doesn't have the technical know-how for creating anything beyond conventional explosives but he does want these things to blow up. He can only commit to so much in December but anything that falls in January is probably fair game if you need someone to come along and haul large quantities of radioactive rocks. And maybe later do some detonating. Let him blow things up holy shit he still has his grenade... in case that ends up somehow useful I guess???
pure_havoc: (Default)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-12-04 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
you're asking Mr. 3rd Century to even know how to make bombs? Don't make me fall down the rabbit hole of figuring out exactly when China started producing weapons with gunpowder. I'll do it I swear.

but yes always Rosinante for the party unless he's, idk, doing mop duty underwater or soemthing.
callada: (your words are such unbearable agony)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-04 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
ok well on the one hand I dare you, but on the other hand we do have to get the radioactive bomb-stuff back first, so definitely count him in for that and then let's just hope they don't all kill themselves by mistake immediately. Maybe if Will and Weaver and whoever else all screech about getting some shitty lead-lined scrap together they'll at least make it a little longer.
pure_havoc: (sultry smirk)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-12-04 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
prematurely turned into masked spirits because we don't know how radioactivity works is also a thought...
callada: (at least I laugh at myself)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-04 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)

Well it would make for one wild endgame, wouldn't it.
pure_havoc: (suspicious)

[personal profile] pure_havoc 2020-12-04 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
LMFAO WHAT THE FUCK

....I mean yes??

player: rachel
character(s): javert
plans: javert is still very much in favor of killing/bombing the world eaters because it's a concrete solution and the only one they know of that works. i don't know if it'd be worthwhile to refine the tonic for the green-eyes/world eater hallucinations, but if anyone is interested in helping out with that, let me know! i'll try to throw him at as many explorations as i'm able before endgame so we can get the ball rolling. he'll probably need to go down the helix station to get some supplies for the tonic and help weaver clean.
worthallthis: (Default)

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-12-03 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Are you actually gonna mop, Javert? Huh?

Anyway, Soldat will come down to Helix, they can go together.
policier: 𝓭𝓷𝓽 (thirty five)

[personal profile] policier 2020-12-04 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
they should! javert is more interested in trying again to get rid of the world eater corpse, he's not going to actually do any mopping.
worthallthis: (Default)

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-12-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I thought they handled the WE corpse last time? Locked it in a flooded lab or something?

(You need to learn to mop, Javert :| )
policier: 𝓭𝓷𝓽 (twenty eight)

[personal profile] policier 2020-12-06 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
well, if they want to get into the flooded lab, it's going to have to be cleaned up eventually. i don't know if anyone's planning on doing anything with the corpse or the piece that they locked in the box, but i kind of want to mess with it.

with any luck, javert will die before he ever has to scrub any floors.
donttalktome: (i'll consider it except i won't)

december plans but also endgame plans!

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-02 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
player: leu
character(s): Will
plans: okay SO let's divide this up

December Specifically: I've been super MIA in this psl for... like more than two months. Life hit me hard with some bullshit, it's a long story, whatever. Point is I'm back now, and I want to do things!! The weather event will be unpleasant for Will because he has a constitution of bad and isn't used to... well, to weather, but he's also a goddamn cockroach, so he'll eventually survive. With fingers intact because he's already lost them once, that's enough. I'm not sure where he's getting snow-teleported to yet, but if anyone wants to... I don't know, have him suddenly show up in the snow or go hunt for him as he gets lost trying to get to the Invincible, lmk.

Also this month, Will is going to try and get in on some of these various projects (I'll hit up peoples' plans above). He's iffy on the idea of exploding a nuclear warhead anywhere in the general vicinity, but he's also got an out plan. Which brings me to...

Endgame Plans: Like I said Will isn't crazy about detonating tons of plutonium, even if he wants to see the world eater dead. HOWEVER, in bargaining (re: yelling) with the others and Weaver down beneath the lake, he managed to get a piece of vital information. Three pieces, actually. The research of the scientists that came before the world eater has provided the coordinates for three stable worlds. Guess who wants to get that portal reversed ASAP!!! So unless he's convinced to do something completely different, that's his goal. Yeet the bomb and duck into another dimension. L8r losers.
callada: (full of a life I can't)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hey Will if you duck off into another dimension you gotta at least say bye first, that's the law.
donttalktome: (i'll consider it except i won't)

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-06 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
what makes you think he isn't planning to drag rosi with him??? law can come too.
callada: (MY PANTS SHRANK IN THE WASH!!)

[personal profile] callada 2020-12-06 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Good but also now I'm picturing Will literally trying to drag someone almost 10 feet tall and let me tell you, he doesn't get very far.
donttalktome: (more skyfall icons)

[personal profile] donttalktome 2020-12-06 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
he just tries to grab rosi's leg and walk away with it. it's like trying to do the same to a tree.
