EVENT INFO: WHEN THE NIGHT IS OVER

EVENT INFO: WHEN THE NIGHT IS OVER

the basics

It's settled: the people of Beacon have decided they will make their stand by converting Weaver's bomb into something that can be fired from the missile silo, and will trust the green-eyed spirit who offered a tentative truce.

Time to see if they can fend off a World Eater and save the world from an endless night.

the details

As announced in the March Gameplan, the World Eater arrives on March 15, and with it, the final endgame log. Without spoiling too much, here's a rough idea of what will happen. Key locations that will have prompts associated with them are in bold.

  • Weaver will relocate to the missile silo and take the lead on turning it into something usable, but she will need help. There is a lot to be done in very little time, and she's hoping most of you will offer to help. We're not going to take an official headcount on who is assisting and at the silo on the last date, but feel free to assume (if you like) that your character was in some way involved in reconstructing the silo and its launch system, and that they may have been working on it when the World Eater is first spotted, leaving little time to return to Bonfire Square without taking serious risks.

  • The World Eater will make its approach from the lake. It is enormous, so although the darkness makes it hard to see, the skies are clear and the creature can be targeted at a distance by those at the silo thanks to the void in the night sky where the stars ought to have been visible.

  • The many-eyed spirit and its small army of followers will take this opportunity to attack in the hopes they can take advantage of the chaos and the potential injured, disoriented, or sanity-affected people thanks to the World Eater's presence. While there are indeed green-eyed spirits who intend to ambush it right back, the people at the missile silo will still need to defend themselves when aggressive, violent spirits slip past their tentative allies. People at the missile silo will have to deal with all the difficulties these spirits pose - so expect ruthless violence, body horror, and hallucinations. Good thing Kuai and Pudding's potions give you some resistance against the mental effects!

  • The Helix Station portal has been proposed as an escape route, and may now be the safest place to hide for those who feel they are better off if not on the front lines against a bunch of green-eyed and other aggressive spirits. Weaver has mounted several tablets on buoys above the station to keep eyes on the lake in the lighthouse's absence, and so characters at the station, with Clara's assistance, will be responsible for monitoring the World Eater's approach and reporting the success or failure of the bomb to the crew at the silo. But the station, it turns out, isn't completely safe either - those stationed here will have to deal with being in proximity to a World Eater and the difficulties that entails, from strange physical sensations and abrupt illness to mental horrors of all sorts, though if your character has taken a dose of a resistance potion, these effects will be blunted.

As mentioned before, we will have an injury roll header on the event log to help you find out what your character might suffer if that helps direct threads. If you prefer something more organic, there will also be a mod-controlled spirits header that characters around the missile silo or anywhere else above water can post toplevels under, and spirits (many violent, but some helpful) will tag into those threads. While multiple characters threading is encouraged, it is not required, so if you tag into the mod-controlled spirits header and no other characters join yours, you can still have a go at threading the defense.

The event resolution will be in the body of the log post as the final prompt. All the pieces have been assembled to determine the final outcome, thanks to everyone who has participated in the last several months of the game, and especially these last couple of endgame organization posts. This really has been an amazing collaborative effort!

player: Lauren
character(s): Rosinante
plans: Rosi here is definitely at the silo when everything goes down. He's tall, that seems useful for smacking metal plates into place and other heavy lifting stuff, he'll just leave the actual electronics to others.

So he'll be down there (and make his way up to the surface as needed) to help fend off whatever makes it out of the forest past the allied green-eyes to attack them, but if somehow they lose the silo he'll advocate falling back to Solis' lab as maybe the next best place to hole up and regroup. If that bomb misses its mark somehow, expect him to think real hard about if there's any way to make it to Helix or not without getting killed by the World Eater along the way. There are ideals and people he would die for, but he'd really love to stay alive this time, there's still lots he wants to do with this second go at life.

notes: Probably going to mostly tag out with him while managing NPC threads but if anyone wants something and isn't planning to toplevel, let me know and I can write a starter for you!

player: Gail
character(s): Soldat, Stone
plans:
Soldat is helping at the silo, they know missile silos, they spent like 50 years living in one. Well. "Living". Also they're fairly mechanically minded, so will be useful to Weaver, helping get things set up. When the green-eyes attack, they'll go where Weaver wants them: underground with her if she needs support, or up above fighting off green-eyes. They'll be imbibing heavily of that anti-green-eyes potion, thanks.

Stone is up top in full dragon form, and he's leaving the potion for other people, because drugs usually don't work on Raksura and he's tough to scare anyway. He's a grumpy old bugger, after all. His plan is to stomp on, bite in half, and toss around attacking green-eyes.
notes:
Stone is on standby for air-evac if the bomb doesn't work. He will load up with anyone and everyone who can cling to him and fly them as far around the World Eater as possible to get them to a designated safe spot. Or else he will dive-bomb the World Eater to let everyone else escape. This means until they know about the bomb's efficacy, he will be trying to stay alive.

This is not a thing Soldat is really trying to do. If by their death they can make sure that bomb goes off without a hitch, they'll do it. (Sorry, Misty.) They will NOT however throw their life away needlessly, nor will they allow other people to do so unless there's a tangible, visible benefit to it. (Sorry, Kuai.)

player: Sydney
character(s): Kuai Liang
plans: He'll be patrolling around the Silo protecting it from attacks. While he's not entirely technologically inept he's definitely gonna feel the most useful if he can fight something to death. And while the potion he and Pudding made won't entirely prevent the mind effects - he should be able to manage to stay sane enough when it's just the spirits. The world eater is a whole other situation.

He's also thoroughly planning to sacrifice himself should the need arise (no matter what he said to Soldat) if he thinks it'll buy them the edge they need to win. Weaver offered him one of the submarines but that is literally a last resort. As in he would rather walk up to the World Eater and punch it than get in a metal tube under water.
notes: I'll be slow tagging due to work but I do plan to put a top-level up for him.
