EVENT INFO: BURY A FRIEND

EVENT INFO: BURY A FRIEND
the basics
The hallucinations begin without warning, and characters may not even realize they're hallucinating at first. It starts small, minute inconsistencies spotted out of the corner of an eye or mishearing a noise in the forest... Little things that could be waved off as the mind playing tricks, at least in the first couple of days.
As the event continues, the hallucinations will grow more intense. What your character sees, hears, or feels is up to you, but there's one consistent theme: Disembodied hands that appear from the darkness to puppet people and things around town. By the final days of the event, they're inescapable, appearing even in dreams. Worse than that, now they're trying to puppet you.
the details
While all characters will be affected in some way by this event, how affected and/or what your character experiences is entirely up to you. There's just a few ground rules to keep in mind:
- Hallucinations can't be shared. Meaning, no, your friend didn't see that sculpture move, they can't hear that mysterious ticking noise, they don't feel the water gathering at their ankles... Hallucinations also won't be able to be recorded in any way. Time for some storytelling, it seems.
- The hallucinations will gradually worsen over the course of the event. Not that your characters will know when the event ends ICly, mind you. It's possible for characters not to experience any hallucinations until the end of the event, though. By the final days, sometimes people won't even look like people anymore, but more like forest spirits or even corpses.
- The hallucinations aren't constant (unless you want them to be). They do come and go, thankfully. Probably. Feel free to be extra mean to your character!
- It's impossible to truly tell what's real and what's not. Alone, anyway. Characters can reality check with each other, of course, and they can also make educated guesses! The fact that hallucinations are happening will likely become common knowledge relatively quickly after the event begins, but no one will be able to definitively say what's real and what's not while it's happening. ICly, it all seems very, very real.
The aforementioned hands are the star of the event. They can be seen (or felt, or... heard?) yanking things around, be it people or items or forest spirits or your character themselves. They're not gentle, that's for sure. If you'd like an example of these hands at work, here's a sneak peak of our event song: Bury a Friend by Billie Eilish (cw for needles, flashing lights).
the tl;dr
- October 9: The hallucinations begin, gradually worsening throughout the event
- The main feature of the hallucinations are the disembodied hands puppetteering people and forest spirits, but any and all hallucinations are possible
- See the above "rules", but otherwise, it's a hallucination event feat. hands... Pretty cut and dry!
- October 17: The hallucinations end

miserablewonderful time handling everyone else's crazy shit on top of his own. :') Canonically, he has a history with false memories/not being in control of himself/not being able to trust himself, i.e. having the impression he murdered his mother bare-handed that felt entirely real to him when it was essentially just a vivid hallucination, so I'm looking forward to piggybacking on that canon fear of not knowing what's real. This might lead him into accidentally hurting people with his murder powers if you catch him at a jumpy moment, wHOOPS, SO SORRY...
Reaches for absolutely everyone, tho'. If you have something in mind or want to do something with the boy, hit me up!
