EVENT SIGNUP: ENTER MR. SANDMAN (CLOSES NOV. 11)

EVENT SIGNUP: ENTER MR. SANDMAN
the basics
As you all might remember from our November gameplan, we've got a pretty big event happening this month! Since it's such a big event, we're starting the prep way early so everyone's got time to plan and ask questions before we actually kick things off. Please give the second half of the November gameplan a read for the full details thus far, but here's what you need to know right this second:
This event will divide the town into two main groups (though a third option is available for characters/players that wish to opt out completely). We'll detail what each group can expect below, but essentially, you've got the dreamers and the defenders. Dreamers will have a chance to explore Beacon of the past in small groups, while defenders will stay awake to defend against an onslaught from the green-eyed spirits. Characters who opt out of the event will technically be part of the dreamers group, but they will not engage in the mod-run investigation threads.
Please be sure to carefully consider your plans before signing up, as we will not allow characters to change groups after they have been finalized! An accurate headcount is super important for our planning!
Sign-ups for this event will close on November 11 at 11:59 PM EST, and the OOC event info with finalized groups will be posted the following day.
the defenders
Characters who DO NOT eat the food at the feast will remain awake during the event, and their job will be to defend themselves and the town from a green-eyed spirit attack. Here's what you can expect if you sign up to be a defender:
- Our vice mod Leu will be running the show for the defenders! Your fate is in her horrible, horrible hands, and she's been left unsupervised...
- CWs include: violence, gore, body horror, monsters, physical status effects, death/serious injury.
- You will be able to list squicks/hard limits for what the mods can inflict upon your character...
- ...But all defenders will be at risk for serious injury and potentially death. You can opt out of dying, but if you want your character to get out of this without any negative impacts, the role of defender is not right for you. No defenders are getting through this event in one piece, figuratively or otherwise.
- OOCly, defenders will be given free reign over what they do to protect themselves/the town. The only "mod direction" will be Leu NPCing/DMing her myriad of terrible monsters and other such horrors, and defenders may react however they choose. Feel like organizing some kind of defensive squad to get your character strategically working with others? Awesome! Want to fly solo and have your character just duke it out with whatever comes their way? Also awesome! The event is your oyster.
- There will be space on the OOC event info post to officially report any major event happenings such as team formations, building structures, property damage, character injury, etc. so we can all keep track of what's going on.
- Defenders can expect a lot of action/combat RP, so if you don't like writing that, this side of the event is not for you!
- Defenders will not be able to contact the dreamers/opt-outs at all throughout the duration of the event! This means that the defenders will have no idea that the dreamers are galavanting around in Beacon of the past; all they'll know is that a good portion of the town has been rendered unconscious after eating food from the feast.
To sign your character up to be a DEFENDER, please see this comment!
the dreamers
Characters who DO eat the food at the feast will fall into a coma for the duration of the event, and their job will be to explore Beacon of the past for plot clues. Here's what you can expect if you sign up to be a dreamer:
- Our head mod Mippins will be overseeing the dreamers, with aux mods Kit and Danielle assisting. Three heads are capable of more Eldritch horror than one, right?
- CWs include: psychological/existential horror... and from there, it will vary depending on player preferences!
- You will be able to list squicks/hard limits for what the mods can inflict upon your character, and we'll have a "scale system" in place so that you can customize the level of horror you're willing to engage with for this event. More deets on that in the sign-up form.
- ...But all dreamers will be subject to some level of spooky happenings. You can opt out of injury, death, and major horror, but plot info doesn't come for free! This is a survival/horror game, after all.
- The good news is that injuries suffered by the dreamers will not translate to "real life"! If you die in the dream, you don't die for real, though characers will 1) not be aware of that during the event, and 2) will still experience the injury/death as if it is real. Characters who die while dreaming will stay "dead" for the remainder of the event.
- OOCly, dreamers will be sorted into groups of 2-3 characters, and they will only be able to communicate with the other characters in their group. Each group will be assigned to a location somewhere in Beacon of the past, and they will spend the event 1) exploring that single location through a mod-directed investigation thread, and 2) threading with each other using that location as a sandbox, should they so desire.
- The mod-run investigation thread is required for all groups, as that's how you're gonna get plot! If you aren't going to be available for consistent tagging/OOC communication during the event, the role of dreamer is not right for you! The dream/mod responses will end when the event does for the sake of keeping the game moving.
- On that note, if you're concerned about group coordination issues (timezones not matching up, emergencies pulling players away for extended periods, tagging speed differences, etc.), please check out this Q&A for some modly reassurances! This post already 'bout to be long as heck, so we're not going to go into full detail on how we plan to keep stuff fair and moving, but feel free to ask further questions below if you have them!
- Dreamers can expect customized headgames (remember all those times you gave us modly ammo on your apps/ac checks? 😃 rip, suckers) and puzzle/mystery solving in order to obtain clues about Beacon's past. If you're the Nancy Drew type, this one's for you.
- Dreamers will not be able to contact anyone outside of their assigned group throughout the duration of the event! This means that the dreamers will have no idea that other dreamers are in other locations around past Beacon or that the defenders are fighting for their lives against the green-eyed spirits. Hell, they may not even realize they're asleep! All the dreamers will know is what's going on in their location with their assigned group.
- Finally, because of this event's intensity, players with multilple characters may only sign up ONE to be a dreamer. Your other character(s) may join up with either the defenders or the opt outs.
To sign your character up to be a DREAMER, please see this comment!
the opt-outs
Players that wish to opt out of the event for any reason may do so by signing up accordingly. Characters that are opted out will eat the feast food and fall into a coma, but they will not be beholden to groups/mod threads and they will not receive plot goodies. Instead, these characters will find themselves in past Beacon's Bonfire Square, where they'll be trapped in a past Beacon "sandbox" for the duration of the event. Some things to know about opting out:
- You don't need to give us a reason! Maybe you won't be able to be active during the event, or maybe you play more than one character and would like to slide one to the backburner, or maybe you don't want to deal with injuries/last consequences, or maybe this event just isn't your bag! Whatever it is, it's fine. There's no shame in opting out.
- The bummer about opting out is that you won't receive plot clues.
- Opt out characters can still thread during the event! They'll all be stuck in the past-Beacon version of Bonfire Square and can mingle accordingly. There will be some light spookies and weirdness around for those characers to investigate should they choose, but it won't be plot-important or mod-run.
- Opt outs will not be able to contact anyone outside of the opt-out group throughout the duration of the event! This means that they will have no idea that other dreamers are in other locations around past Beacon or that the defenders are fighting for their lives against the green-eyed spirits. Hell, they may not even realize they're asleep! All the opt outs will know is what's going on in past Beacon's Bonfire Square.
To OPT OUT with your character, please see this comment!
the tl;dr
- No TL;DR for the signups process! Please read all of this information carefully!
- Players/characters that don't sign up for this event will be automatically sorted into the opt-out group.
- Signups close on November 11 at 11:59 PM EST, and the OOC event info with finalized groups will be posted the following day.

Would Matt still be blind in the dream, or would he be able to dream in a visual? Some blind people do dream in pictures so I’m curious as to the extent this dream functions like a normal one.
Nvm I read better and realize they don’t have to not realize they’re dreaming but I still wanna know the answer to the first bit!

And accordingly: As a dreamer, would Castiel generally be able to access his grace related powers (i.e. heal, smite, etc), and would it accordingly also drain the lamp, if he has it?
Would he be able to access non-grace related powers (materializing the angel blade, fly)?

Can he see the light and everything else without having the yellow colour corrected to white and grey?

DEFENDER SIGNUPS
no subject
character: Rosinante
squicks/limits: Fuck him up, fam. If he dies, or less (worse??) I'm down for it. I love me some horror no matter what it costs.
no subject
character: Zihuan Cao Pi
squicks/limits: I'd like to avoid loss of limbs/body parts that would be permanent. Serious injury and death is cool so long as he eventually recovers. Eventually.
no subject
character: Xayah
squicks/limits: No limits. Let's do this.
no subject
character: Vanitas
squicks/limits: no hard limits. gore + body horror with long lasting effects ok. also, i am actually REQUESTING that vanitas get killed somehow during the event so please hmu with ur most awful ideas ok thx
Re: DEFENDER SIGNUPS
character: Jason Todd
squicks/limits: I'd like to avoid loss of body parts, and I am not interested in dying just yet. But other than that, I guess, fuck me up fam?
no subject
character: Akira Kurusu
squicks/limits: I DON'T HAVE ANY SUPER HARD LIMITS, SO FUCK ME UP!! The only request I make is that if limb loss is involved that it can somehow be fffffixed later on (even with IC work), but otherwise I'm easy!
no subject
character: Masaomi Kida
squicks/limits: The only thing I ask is that he doesn't permanently lose a leg. Like, do things a million times worse, I'm so down. Anything and everything is on the table. I just want him to still be able to run around during future horror events.
no subject
character: Bucky
squicks/limits: Killing is fine! Killing is actually preferable to lots of maiming that will keep him out of commission for a long time, but it will also be fun to finally put into play his "nobody can do medical stuff to me" phobia, too. My only real squick is mind control, which shouldn't be an issue for violence + body horror stuff. Just don't like completely destroy his metal arm, he can't really get another one of those.
Re: DEFENDER SIGNUPS
character: Crowley
squicks/limits: Nah bro mess me up
no subject
character: javert
squicks/limits: no death and no permanent loss of body parts, but other than that, do your worst
no subject
character: Jason Grace
squicks/limits: I'd prefer to avoid permanent, major disfigurement (ie losing an arm, leg, foot, etc). Major scaring, broken bones, and stuff like that are fine. Body horror is fine as long as it can be a temporary thing (though, maybe lets avoid bodies twisting in grotesque ways, especially if it is slow and overly graphic). I don't really have much in the limits for psychological horror at this time. As for death, well, he does get one free one. I'd prefer NOT to kill him, but I also understand that should he make the wrong choices/push himself it might happen anyway.
no subject
character: Misty Day
squicks/limits: I'd like her to avoid dying quite this early in the game-lifespan, and I'll echo the Please Don't Permanently Take Her Limbs sentiments seen scattered about. She needs those. Fine going right up to the line in both instances, though - to such a point it maxes out her power/functionally puts her out of commission anyway, just not permanent.
no subject
character: Riku
squicks/limits: No hard limits personally though I'd prefer that whatever outcome doesn't render Riku incapable of participating in explores/helping out around town on a permanent basis? LMAO like if it's a choice between total loss of mobility or the character dying I'd rather the dying if that makes sense! Otherwise whatever works out best for the story.
no subject
character: Ellever Brandt
squicks/limits: Serious injury and body horror is A-OK! Fuck her shit up. She'll be defending with tooth and nail and hopefully a weapon or two (??). I'd prefer her not die for this particular venture (soon >.>), however.
no subject
character: Kuai Liang
squicks/limits: Fuck him up. The only thing I want to avoid is anything where he's forced to do things against his will while conscious. He's already been a mind-controlled slave, possessed by a knife, and turned into robot. He's getting too old for that shit.
no subject
character: Prompto Argentum
squicks/limits: I'd prefer to avoid permanent loss of entire limbs or digits or permanent paralysis, but any injury severity is okay aside from fatal. I'd rather not have him die this early, but if it comes down to it, I'd prefer that over over the aforementioned injuries. Hard no on severe facial injuries, removal or mutilation of facial features, and ear mutilation, especially with anything sharp.

character: Eleven
squicks/limits: Do your worst

DREAMER SIGNUPS
As an additional note: You may not request to be paired with any particular characters for this event, but please let us know privately if there is any pairing you wish to avoid for any reason! Could be as simple as "we have tight CR and I want to mix it up".
no subject
character: Ignis Scientia
timezone & typical hours of availability: I am from Europe, GTM+2, but I am around at weird times of night too, so my pace can adjust to others
squicks/limits: No limits
horror level: This man fears no God or Death. Bring it
