the basics

So the spirits decided to throw you a party; a feast, in fact. Cool! But then everyone who ate it suddenly collapsed, and now it's just you and a bunch of other confused (and probably still hungry) people with no idea what's happening. Are the feasters dead, or just unconscious? And what was in that food? Unfortunately, there's no time to stop and figure it out.

Almost immediately after the mass-fainting, a sharp rustling begins to echo from all around. Spirits, an army of them, creep purposefully out of the trees. And they aren't the friendly ones who made you all this dinner, either; instead it's those infamous green-eyed spirits, but more than just the one that plagued the last big feast in Beacon— (maybe you guys just shouldn't have parties? just saying)— this time there's more of them. A lot more.

Their exact intentions are unclear, but one thing's for sure: they do not come in peace. Over the next two weeks, these spirits will attack the town and everyone in it, using an arsenal of potent psychic abilities and the spirits' particularly unsettling flavor of physical violence. So grab that comatose body next to you and book it to the nearest safe space, or grab a weapon and get to fighting. It's time to defend the town!

the details

Starting on November 16th, the green-eyed spirits will launch an all-out assault on the citizens of Beacon. Their tactics will include not only their trademark induced hallucinations and general mind games, but physical violence as well. They seem to have recruited— or otherwise coerced— some of the forest's more dangerous inhabitants to their cause, and as a whole they will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal. Whatever that might be. Are they trying to kill you all? Just trying to scare you and going too far? Or is there something else sinister going on? Whatever the case may be, here are a few things you should know about the event itself:

• The attacking spirits will not be frightened away or otherwise diverted from their onslaught of their own free will. As a result, the attack will last the entire duration of the event. Get ready for the long haul, everybody!


• Characters may form groups to fight together (and, in practice, thread together against the spirits). These groups can consist of no more than 4 members, as any higher number would make threads unwieldy.


• Outside of the threads against spirits, characters are welcome to thread with those not in their chosen groups at their leisure.


• Characters can also go solo, naturally.


• Please report any formed groups in the appropriate place below. Your character won't have to spend every waking moment with these folks, but they will be fighting alongside them, so choose wisely!


• Mod responses (playing the attacking spirits) will come readily to threads that request it or that are obviously geared toward fighting the spirits, but beware: the attacking spirits may appear suddenly in any thread on the event log.


• Characters may alter the setting by building structures to better defend the town. Report any defenses constructed in the appropriate place below.


• Additional things to report include any property destruction, permanent injuries, or deaths.


• The reporting threads on this post will be used throughout the event! Anything not reported here will NOT count as game canon.

plans: He's part of the very exclusive Will protection squad so he'll bounce over to the Invincible every so often to check on him and Rosinante. He's a fan of the forest spirits, but not these ones. So expect no mercy.
notes: It's time for Sub-Zero to use some of those fatalities he's been holding back on. Expect lots of ice walls to be used as shields and to block spirits from those who are sleeping. And some very, very bloody fight sequences. Not to mention his signature move.

Yesss, Ellever's eyes go black when she fully uses her powers. She'll be trying not to do so for the event, since it tends to accidentally kill people from really bad luck. But she'll be incredibly intrigued that someone else's eyes turn black too!

Big Damn Dummy works fine since Nyx can sure be that way at times when it comes to saving his friends. But I'm all for a team-up, yeah! Nyx will do his best to keep M.K. alive and away from spirits if need be.

I doubt Misty will stick around The Invincible (suddenly sky high population density makes for a ripe target in her opinion - though she may waffle about the Bonfire because like....did we not just all catch a play about spirits stealing the fire), but she will most assuredly run into him at some point and sink a day or so into making sure he's alright. She trusts you! But what if murder!!!

Yeah but see. Ripe target which is well protected and defended that means Bucky gets to kill more of those spirits just in a place of his choosing, so they stop trying to kill everyone else :D

But he is doing a lot of patrolling, looking for people in need or sleepers they missed. And if Misty refuses to stay where it's safe, he will stalk her a bunch to make sure she's okay :|

I'll have to find your comment but whatever Jon's up to, Misty'll be moving enough there should be no trouble having them bump into one another. Please do give her any chance to see swordsmanship, no setting will ever be this prime for it - and in exchange she can abuse telekinesis and/or patch him up, if he's in need of it? However things shake out, anyway! I'm excited!

OKAY time to tackle these, one at a time!

• The spirits are indeed killable! They're tough to take down, but it's possible.


• Their tactics vary. These spirits are smart, and they'll learn as they go. Sometimes they'll attack in big groups to overwhelm, other times one or two will sneak up alone. They do seem to be acting as individuals, however, not as a hive-mind.


• Ambushes, stalking, and attacks of opportunity are all possible.


• They do seem to prefer those who are still awake.


• They're coming from all directions! It's tough to tell where they originated, since they may have simply gone around town through the forest.


• In general, these particular spirits are stronger than your average human. They move with an animal-like swiftness. And they do not tend to favor weapons, aside from their natural ones (which, again, vary).


• I will be playing the spirits primarily, but so long as it's in line with everything described above and in the event information, you're okay to assume an attack happened "off screen". Players will not need to NPC any spirits in threads.


• Morse away, Bucky! Unfortunately, it probably won't help. But he can try!
