EVENT INFO: DO YOU REALIZE?
the basics
It's party time! The forest spirits have been relatively shy up until this point, but given that many of you have been friendly with them and shown them signs of good faith, they've decided to host a big ol' bash in order to welcome everyone to Beacon!
The forest spirits (in conjunction with the party planning committee composed of Clarke Griffin, Daylight vis Lornlit, Ignis Scientia, Melisandre, and Daniel Riordan) have organized a party intended to run all weekend long. There will be a variety of games and entertainment, as well as refreshments of all sorts! What a nice way to relax and have some fun for a change, huh?
Unless you've been chosen to participate in the lighthouse expedition, that is. The Lighthouse Keeper needs to get back online, and the only way to do this is to manually reconnect her. Winters will be hiking out to the lighthouse himself, accompanied by Rosinante Donquixote, Riku, Peter Parker, and Number Five. A whole swath of other folks will be playing both defense and lookout to make sure the expedition (as well as the town at large) remains safe.
And what better time to attempt this dangerous mission than the forest spirit party? The intent is twofold: The majority of forest spirits will be distracted, which will make the journey possible, but also, if the lighthouse crew does get discovered, the very earnest party should keep diplomatic relations between the town and the spirits amicable.
...Right?
part one
Part one of the event will run from August 15 to August 17. The lighthouse expedition itself will take place on August 17, but on the days prior to the expedition, everyone in the game may attend the party! Please do, in fact. You want the spirits to know this is a sincere effort.
Once the expedition heads out, the party will carry on for everyone that isn't involved with said expedition. The defense and lookout teams are in charge of the strategy they'd like to use to defend the town and relay information, so those details will appear on the event log itself. You may just see some of those folks at the party after all!
But, toward the end of the night on August 17, partygoers and expedition teams alike will hear the lighthouse's foghorn echoing through the night sky. It's loud enough to drown out the party's music and, in fact, it sounds a bit like music in and of itself, if disjointed and not following any particular rhythm.
The foghorn will trigger part two of the event.
part two
Once the foghorn sounds, the forest spirits in town will start to act... a little strange.
They fall silent as the foghorn blares, their heads turning in unison to stare up at the lighthouse's red beam flashing against the stars. They're listening. They've been cheerful and happy enough to mingle amongst the lantern-havers up until this point, but now? Now they're on edge. The foghorn continues, but the spirits panic, some of them darting into the forest only to disappear in the shadows while some lash out, tearing apart the party decorations and even attacking anyone that gets in their way. Others stand transfixed by it all, staring blankly upward or downward or letting their heads loll to one side as if they've short-circuited. They don't respond to any attempts to get their attention.
The angrier forest spirits are prepared to fight as if they're animals backed into a corner. They can be killed, at least, or even detained if you can manage to overpower them, though it doesn't look like talking sense into them will be possible. You partygoers might want to, erm, get inside, and quick.
What the expedition groups do at this time is up to them! There's no getting in touch with the lighthouse crew, it seems... Maybe some groups will retreat back to town to protect those attending the party, or maybe they'll charge deeper into the forest in an attempt to locate the lighthouse crew. Maybe they'll come up with a different plan altogether. In any case, everyone on the defense and lookout crews will be able to return to town as early as the beginning of part two.
The foghorn will eventually fall silent and the lighthouse will stop flashing, but the spirits will remain in Bonfire Square, either "powered down" or on the attack, until the event comes to a close on August 19. Any forest spirits left in the square at midnight will seem to come to their senses and vanish into the forest once more.
And the lighthouse crew? Well, they'll turn up eventually. Probably.
the tl;dr
- The party begins on August 15 and continues on through August 17.
- The lighthouse expedition will take place on August 17.
- On the night of August 17, the foghorn will blare out a strange series of notes, and the forest spirits will snap, some fleeing while others attack at random.
- The remaining forest spirits will disappear back into the woods on August 19, marking the end of the event.
