EVENT INFO: FOR EVERYTHING A REASON

the basics

There's been a lot of sadness and tension in town since the party, hasn't there? A lot of people died or haven't been found yet, relations with the forest spirits have been rocky at best, and then there's that whole World Eaters thing...

Rastus is not pleased to see the townspeople in such a state, and he wants to do something about it. This weekend, he'll be down at the harbor, having collected a number of small stones that he's enchanted to glow with a soft, yellow light. These stones can be placed in crafted paper lanterns fastened to small paper boats, which can then be set adrift on the lake in tribute to those who were lost. Rastus hopes that this memorial send-off will help everyone to grieve and move on— and to rebuild some burnt bridges with the forest spirits, some of whom will also be in attendance. They have their own people to mourn, after all.

The Lighthouse Keeper has been working to smooth things over, and so far, so good, given that the spirits do show up in rather large numbers. It's like the party all over again, though this time with a much more somber atmosphere. Let's hope it has a better ending.

the details

Rastus and the forest spirits can be found at the harbor on September 6-7, releasing paper boats into the water and inviting characters to do the same. Some basic craft supplies will be available—markers, scissors, tape, and the like—for prettying up the boats as characters see fit. It's intended as an opportunity to honor the dead, but Rastus assures everyone that "the dead" can be literal or metaphorical. Have you been carrying emotional baggage that's preventing you from accepting your lot here? Are you holding onto some memory or truth that you find difficult to let go? Now's the time to send it off.

A sense of relief and calm will come over characters as they send boats off with their little glowing pebbles. The more pebbles sail out, the greater the feeling, and it will remain until the event ends. Or maybe it will continue, if your character has truly found some peace in this act; it's up to you. But regardless, it will at least be a break for this moment.

The forest spirits will also be sending out their own boats, covered in doodles and scribbles and the occasional bite mark. They're in mourning as well, both for their own kind and for the nice townsfolk that were lost in the chaos, and they want to make amends. They will nervously mingle with the characters and some will even offer to help with boat crafting.

Players, you're free to NPC the forest spirit interactions in your own threads if you like! They behave like rather intelligent animals (think Pokemon, honestly), and plenty will be around to help with crafting or to add little offerings to the boats, mainly things like flowers and leaves. They're skittish after the party, but not unkind, and none of them will be attacking anyone during the event. Even if they're treated with hostility, they'll just run back into the forest. They've had it with violence, it seems. At least, these ones have.

the tl;dr

  • September 6-7: Rastus and the spirits are down at the harbor for memorial boats

  • Sending off boats will make characters feel relieved and calm

  • Characters may send off as many boats as they wish

  • The forest spirits in attendance are nervous, but want to give the characters a second chance

  • The relieved and calm feeling will linger until the event ends, though it may extend beyond at the player's discretion
