EVENT INFO: PLEADER

EVENT INFO: PLEADER
the basics
Remember those odd lights that the new arrivals saw last November? In the wee hours of December 12, the lights return, appearing just under the waves in the harbor, approaching the dock, until the lights surface entirely. They're submarines, glowing a dim blue now that they're up out of the water, and the fleet is three vessels strong. They've brought with them a floating bridge system to attach to the harbor's main dock to allow access to all three submarines, and they start to unpack...
By "morning", under the light of the full moon, the Night Market is open for business!
The Night Market is the group of "friends" Robin has mentioned to some, the friends that fixed the ferry, and their leader, Pluto, will tell you all about this once the market opens.
the details
The Night Market is a new permanent feature of the game, though they'll only be arriving every other month after this point, returning to the harbor again in February. As a market, they offer a variety of goods and services typically unavailable to the good people of Beacon. Lantern charms that grant special and boosted abilities? Check. Magical potions to imbue the imbiber with fun but temporary effects? Got 'em. Specialty goods from home? Can do. Cigarettes? You bet your buns.
There's also genuinely useful stuff, like town maps to help unlock locations and single-use items that will serve as "get out of jail free" cards should your characters run into Some Shit while exploring. The Night Market carries everything from crack RP nonsense stuff to plot-important goods and services, but here's the catch: It all comes at a price, and this time, it's not handwaved!
Accepted currencies at the Night Market include: Building and scrap materials, old tablets, old lanterns, captured forest spirits, torches, information, and most importantly... Plutonium. Of course, attempting to barter is always an option... but these currencies are your best bet for dealing with the various vendors offered by the Night Market.
How do you get this stuff? Things like old tablets, old lanterns, captured forest spirits, and the coveted plutonium are only available through explorations—though this is not a cue for everyone to dash madly to the explorations page! For each Night Market visit, characters may only pay with the "currency" they have in their possession by the start of the market, meaning that explorations started after the Night Market's arrival won't yield currency items to be traded to the Night Market during that visit. Instead, focus on finding currency items in the off season, before the market arrives.
In the meantime, you have other options! Information and building/scrap material are readily accessible throughout the town, and you don't need to wait on us to give it to you! Chopping down a tree to hook a vendor up with lumber is valid payment, as is the latest gossip from, say, a certain town hall meeting! Torches are also semi-readily available... Though you'd better have a good cover story for Rastus.
Some vendors may ask for other peculiarities, and some will be choosier than others. Just kinda depends who's around for the month. Which, speaking of! The Night Market will have a rotating cast, meaning that the NPC vendors—and thus the goods offered—will change with each visit. Some vendors may make multiple appearances and some may just be one-offs, but characters will never know in advance who will be around during each market. Instead, it's a fun surprise! Live in the moment, players, and have your character buy the stuff if they want the stuff! It might not ever be offered again!
Most of the NPC vendors will be played by our various mods (including our discord mods, when they're able! all hands on deck!), but, exciting news: Starting with January AC, players who are able to make double AC for one character may opt to be entered into a RNG pool for a chance to play a one-off NPC vendor at the next Night Market visit. We'll have many more details for you once January rolls around, but know that that's a cool thing to look forward to!
The Night Market's one constant is their leader. Pluto will make an appearance at every market because, good job, gang, you've unlocked your next major NPC! She doesn't have access to the network just yet, though, so be sure to hit her up during the markets if you're interested in spelunking for plot.
And finally, all your threading needs beyond goofing around with NPCs, the Night Market will bring with it a host of activities akin to a street festival. Warm up with a hot toddy or gourmet latte from the pop-up coffee booth, sample a treat from the candy shop, or win your bae a stuffed forest spirit or mechanical goldfish from the carnival games.
Above all else, enjoy yourselves, defenders and dreamers and newly dead. Bask in the blue glow of the submarines and sip from your mug of cocoa and watch your breath crystallize into clouds as the lake gently sways the docks underfoot. You have earned this rest.•••
Additionally, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:
the tl;dr
- December 12: The Night Market arrives at the docks
- The Night Market is exactly what it sounds like, plus a street festival. It's cute! You can buy stuff! It's pretty straightforward! You'll see on the log!
- Pluto, the leader of the Night Market, is a new major NPC! Everyone say hi, Pluto!
- December 16: The Night Market packs up shop and descends back into the lake

or is it just... items that are a little more specific to their homeworlds than what rastus is able to pick up?

Re: QUESTIONS
If he offers to help the Night Market with its menial labor, could he convince a few of these merchants to bring their wares to someone who can't approach the water, so they don't get left out?

character(s): Mollymauk Tealeaf and Mewtwo
plans:
MOLLY IS ALL OVER THIS. IT'S LIKE HARVEST'S CLOSE. IT'S THE BEST. He will be trying everything, but also realizing he doesn't really have much currency, but he will totally try to sell bullshit stories to the vendors for nice things. That is an option if you would like someone to pay for their transgressions against forest spirits.
But obviously it can't punch everyone. That is not how we solve problems.
Mewtwo doesn't like any of this, will be hovering back, and also thinks that offering captured forest spirits is rude. If you try to bring captured forest spirits to trade, it may punch you. With telekinesis.
notes: Obviously, it's the holidays and my life is a chaotic mess rn, but /WAVES HANDS I might not top level, but I'm always down to do private ones or you can point me in the direction of your top levels.

character(s): Bucky/Soldat, Stone
plans: Bucky is gonna try and get himself a new armored vest :| And some fabric and shit to make Christmas gifts out of. Otherwise, wandering around, being too good at the various carnival games given training/super-serum, and enjoying the coffee a lot. Stone is just gonna be eating a lot and like... talking to people. He has nothing he particularly wants or needs, though he might be interested in one of those get-free-of-spirits gizmos for further explorations...
notes: I will absolutely be top-leveling, and hoping for lots of laid-back CR-building threads with both my boys. Plot will be poked probably. Neither one will be keen on the capturing-spirits thing, but Stone will be way more vocal about it.

character(s): Rosalind Lutece
plans: If 👏 you 👏 kidnap 👏 a spirit 👏 give 👏 it 👏 to 👏 her, smh, can't believe I gotta say it . . . . no but really she would love a spirit to dissect, so. Beyond that, she'll be trying to relax, and by trying to relax I mean angrily bartering with the NPCs on what she's allowed to buy. Will she lie about gossip? Yes. Yes she will.
character(s): Rhys Strongfork
plans: Do you want to win a cute bear from him? B/c he will absolutely be using his echo eye to rig the games. He'll win so many stuffed animals. It's gonna be amazing. And then maybe make himself sick off elephant ears, b/c that's just what you do at carnivals.
All in all both my characters are gonna be real chill this event because there is only so much I can handle!! But I will be tagging around eagerly.
no subject
which you can TOTALLY SAY NO TO
but in the event ros does get her hands on a spirit to dissect- would you be interested in someone uh. possibly breaking in and liberating said spirit.

character(s): peter parker
plans: unrelated to the night circus, peter will be going on An Explore later in the month; in the meantime, he will be Quite Unimpressed by the concept of capturing and using the spirits as currency.
but also he may try and use a non-spirit related currency THX to get something from home.
outside of that: fuck yeah, coffee and festival food.
notes: TBH i am aware it's been a while since i've done a TL with pete (outside of the town meeting), but i'm down for night market shenanigans (and other things!), just hmu.

Duster is willing to help navigate the night market and currency since he's all new to this.

character(s): DG
plans:
She needs a second outfit, a winter coat, and more CR (I've been the worst noob guys sorry). The concept of a Night Market is a bit weird but she knows down-homey fairs so this might make her chill a bit, as would a a beer or two because lbr who doesn't need a freakin' drink at this point?
Difficulty: currency! I doubt she's gathered any! Anybody wanna help a newly dead chick out? She can IOU to replace items, do other favors, or entertain with stories about the O.Z. while being flummoxed by any Wizard of Oz jokes.
notes: None I can think of! Will definitely be top-leveling and will tag out some because lordy I want to.

character(s): Riku
plans: Riku will be here to satisfy his own curiosity as well as get some things for his friends as gifts since it's that time of year. CR, please give him a hint that you like something... or let him win you a prize from a festival game... that's so heckin cute.
Also he knows someone who (for Reasons) can't approach the water, so he'll be convincing some merchants to bring their wares to the beach so that person can browse them. If someone else wants to take advantage of this opportunity and has their own reasons for not wanting to venture out to the docks, join in!
Even some light interactions like sharing a snack or a quiet moment enjoying a bit of peace would be super good...
notes: He has his voice back thanks to some really effective healing, but he isn't 100% yet. Threads will probably be light on dialogue for this reason.

character(s): Armitage Hux
plans: Hux is going to be looking for stuff he can use to build things with, technology and the other such. Stuff he can take apart and use for parts for potential mouse droids in the future is always good. He doesn't want anything to do with magic and sorcery since he dislikes those things.
But if there happens to be blue milk sold then he's getting some because what is wrong with you heathens drinking white milk? It's so nasty.
Also, he's never had festival food or even hot chocolate before so that will be a thing.
notes: I'll be top-leveling most likely, let me know if you want to do something!
no subject
character(s): Crowley
plans: Crowley got lost on the lake looking for these damn lights. You bet your ass he's topleveling on this. He's got some materials, things from his last ferry haul that mean nothing to him, oh, and his little spirit friend from the riddle machine.
Crowley will, of course, be looking for things from home and better alcohol. If the market has his car, he will do literally anything to get it back.
notes: Anyone up for causing some havoc with this guy?

Which is to say, do please try to look and watch Bucky try to hide stuff. Poorly.

character(s): vanitas
plans: Vanitas is gonna be MAD ENVIOUS of everyone that can go down to the market because he is now violently afraid of the water! Thanks death count #2. He will be:
I'm very open to anyone that wants to catch hands, or just make fun of him, or even try to chase him off.
Or maybe if anyone wants to try and connect with him about his forced solitude. Haha just kidding.... Unless? 👀
notes: he actually has stuff to trade but he will not go anywhere NEAR the lake. that said you guys will probably see Unversed running around in the market, mostly getting under foot and potentially trying to steal things out of character's hands to bring back to Vanitas. obviously with no success unless anyone would like to play with this idea!

character(s): it's will
plans: okay so, here's the thing. will is going to be very mad he didn't know about these people before? like, hey, where were you when everyone was murdering each other??? could've used a ride outta here. that said, he's 100% going to ask if he can just go with them, so there's that. goodbye everyone.
assuming that doesn't work (because let's be real, it won't, who would want him) he's probably going to be willing to offer the night market folks a working tablet (bc like, his will just come back, right? or he can steal someone's or something he'll make it work) and/or Space Drugs. plus information about where they can get some plutonium. (whoops.)
basically this is where the "will is a hedonist and doesn't give a shit he'd sell you to satan for one corn chip" part of his personality is going to be a potential problem so uh, sorry in advance?
notes: I haven't heard back from the mods yet on the tablet situation as of writing this, so that might not happen but WE'LL SEE!!! also yeah, surprise, will doesn't know about the night market, and that's not just because he's not an NPC anymore LMAO

character(s): Rosinante
plans: Asking a lot of questions of these poor vendors. WHY DO YOU WANT SPIRITS. But also can he come see the inside of a submarine?
Pretty much the only thing I know of in advance that he wants is some sort of news from home but mostly I'm waiting to see what all there is to be found. Luckily, he and Kuai Liang and Ambrose recently found a big ol' cache of old building supplies past the new bridge they built so that will come in handy for trade because he's not going to give these people information until he knows what they're actually up to. Trading information to him is usually the way he does things.
But he'll be around and he's swayed by cute eventually so we'll see what he gets up to. I'm not planning to toplevel with him so please let me know if you do want him around, otherwise I'll tag out.
notes: I'll be busy from the 13th-17th with holiday family stuff but I'll do my usual best to keep on top of things anyway.

character(s): Bodhi Rook (currently going by his surname only for the most part)
plans: Bodhi won't set out to buy anything, though if he stumbles across tea or alcohol he may be tempted on the spot. But he finds markets soothing at a conceptual level and he loves being useful, so he'll be hoping to help anybody else who needs something get their hands on it. In the interests of that he'll turn his tinkering skills to a purpose and try to tidy up any interesting scraps of things he can find lying around or in the scrapyard. Doesn't want anything for this surface. Just... contributing. (Really, he just needs to build some more CR. Boy is both shy and kinda cranky. He needs to get out more).
notes: Bodhi's relationship to alcohol is... not super healthy, and he's had some stressors in his life (unlife? existence) lately. This may lead to bad decisions. And will be warned for, of course.
no subject
character(s): Ignis and Xayah
plans: Ignis and Xayah will just be scouring the market and they are both extremely wary in nature. They don't have much materials to trade so they will mostly window shop because Ignis refuses to trade information for anything (and Xayah is Xayah- she's just weird and doesn't trust anyone in general).
A thing to note here- Ignis will be extremely cross with anyone selling information shared at the town meeting. He's already being judged for sleeping for two weeks- he doesn't want the combined efforts to be sold off for random, might or might not work item at the questionable dark market. This can lead to him not cooperating with anyone in the future and keeping anything he comes across to himself.
Xayah would've been very upset that spirits are being sold off like slaves but after the event, she doesn't care; she didn't buy Riku's little speech that spirits won't attack them anymore. She won't sell them herself, but she'll sit atop a tree and smirk as others do. Bye Bye fuckers, see how it feels when others stab you and cut you for 'research purposes'.
notes: I might be a bit slow as I caught a cold, otherwise nothing. Open to all plotting.
no subject
character(s): Prompto Argentum
plans: Prompto is both wary of and extremely curious about this new development. On one hand, weird visitors, but on the other, new things to buy!
That said, he doesn't have much in the way of currency aside from things he's obtained from the gacha machine, but will absolutely attempt to barter teeth for...anything, really. And possibly snacks or photos (can he get them off his tablet/camera? He'll try!).
notes: He's not up for anything involving catching or selling spirits because he doesn't want to anger them.
no subject
character(s): Daylight vis Lornlit.
plans: Day will be trading mostly information he has to the vendors, being very honest and earnest the entire time. He'll mostly be on the lookout for gifts to give to the others since the winter holidays are supposed to be happening in his world. Maaaybe items from his world, too, if he realises what else they have. Over-all, Day will be pretty excited by these turn of events and welcome the Night Market with open arms!!
Or.
Well.
Up until he learns the other forms of currencies the Night Market will accept.
Because an extremely important thing to note is this: Day is actively going to try and prevent others from capturing forest spirits, making his feelings about that known the entire time. Because what the heck, you guys. What the heck. He's going to draw a line on that and make actual use of his powers for once if he spots or finds others trying to give captured spirits away. Seriously what the heck, you guys???
notes: If your character does plan to give spirits as currency but don't want to deal with a +10 feet tall robot being Aggressively Protective, just let me know via this toplevel, on a private plurk or HMD on my journal!

character(s): Keith
plans: No solid plans yet, but he's new here and he'll be looking into questioning the vendors and seeing what's around that might be helpful for future exploring around. Mostly he'll be using lumber to pay for goods, so if anyone needs help cutting down trees or whatever, lets do it.
notes: HM. I am also highly interested in shenanigans over finding some lulzy weird item haha.
no subject
character(s): Duster
plans: Duster still mostly interested in getting information about Beacon first and foremost, so he's not going to have much currency to exchange. But he does have a treasure chest full of Yu-Gi-Oh cards so that might be useful. Hopefully he'll find his band outfit and his bass so he can be a musician again!
notes: not much, but I may be slow due to holiday stuff.

character(s): ambrose spellman
plans: so, ambrose is probably gonna be cuttin' down trees for this (feel free to check him out being a lumberjack) so he can get 1) information 2) grimoires from home. 3) new clothes. i don't think he'll get all of them but he's definitely going to be in the market for at least two while being a little suspicious of HOW these things are coming in.
notes: he's gonna be leaving the forest spirits alone this time. he's had enough of them for the time being.

plans: Yo, if anyone wants the boy some last minute hang-outs at the Night Market, gimme a shout and we'll do a thing!!! Come be confused about the inflatable tube men with him.
NGL, he's going to be interested in the NPC selling drugs... haha... that said, he is in possession of some plutonium b u t he'll be hesitant to bring it up unless the deal is very good. CONVINCE HIM.
Assuming Will doesn't barter it away first, gd it...Also here for any and all cute carnival things, hello. :3
