EVENT INFO: PLEADER

EVENT INFO: PLEADER

the basics

Remember those odd lights that the new arrivals saw last November? In the wee hours of December 12, the lights return, appearing just under the waves in the harbor, approaching the dock, until the lights surface entirely. They're submarines, glowing a dim blue now that they're up out of the water, and the fleet is three vessels strong. They've brought with them a floating bridge system to attach to the harbor's main dock to allow access to all three submarines, and they start to unpack...

By "morning", under the light of the full moon, the Night Market is open for business!

The Night Market is the group of "friends" Robin has mentioned to some, the friends that fixed the ferry, and their leader, Pluto, will tell you all about this once the market opens.

the details

The Night Market is a new permanent feature of the game, though they'll only be arriving every other month after this point, returning to the harbor again in February. As a market, they offer a variety of goods and services typically unavailable to the good people of Beacon. Lantern charms that grant special and boosted abilities? Check. Magical potions to imbue the imbiber with fun but temporary effects? Got 'em. Specialty goods from home? Can do. Cigarettes? You bet your buns.

There's also genuinely useful stuff, like town maps to help unlock locations and single-use items that will serve as "get out of jail free" cards should your characters run into Some Shit while exploring. The Night Market carries everything from crack RP nonsense stuff to plot-important goods and services, but here's the catch: It all comes at a price, and this time, it's not handwaved!

Accepted currencies at the Night Market include: Building and scrap materials, old tablets, old lanterns, captured forest spirits, torches, information, and most importantly... Plutonium. Of course, attempting to barter is always an option... but these currencies are your best bet for dealing with the various vendors offered by the Night Market.

How do you get this stuff? Things like old tablets, old lanterns, captured forest spirits, and the coveted plutonium are only available through explorations—though this is not a cue for everyone to dash madly to the explorations page! For each Night Market visit, characters may only pay with the "currency" they have in their possession by the start of the market, meaning that explorations started after the Night Market's arrival won't yield currency items to be traded to the Night Market during that visit. Instead, focus on finding currency items in the off season, before the market arrives.

In the meantime, you have other options! Information and building/scrap material are readily accessible throughout the town, and you don't need to wait on us to give it to you! Chopping down a tree to hook a vendor up with lumber is valid payment, as is the latest gossip from, say, a certain town hall meeting! Torches are also semi-readily available... Though you'd better have a good cover story for Rastus.

Some vendors may ask for other peculiarities, and some will be choosier than others. Just kinda depends who's around for the month. Which, speaking of! The Night Market will have a rotating cast, meaning that the NPC vendors—and thus the goods offered—will change with each visit. Some vendors may make multiple appearances and some may just be one-offs, but characters will never know in advance who will be around during each market. Instead, it's a fun surprise! Live in the moment, players, and have your character buy the stuff if they want the stuff! It might not ever be offered again!

Most of the NPC vendors will be played by our various mods (including our discord mods, when they're able! all hands on deck!), but, exciting news: Starting with January AC, players who are able to make double AC for one character may opt to be entered into a RNG pool for a chance to play a one-off NPC vendor at the next Night Market visit. We'll have many more details for you once January rolls around, but know that that's a cool thing to look forward to!

The Night Market's one constant is their leader. Pluto will make an appearance at every market because, good job, gang, you've unlocked your next major NPC! She doesn't have access to the network just yet, though, so be sure to hit her up during the markets if you're interested in spelunking for plot.

And finally, all your threading needs beyond goofing around with NPCs, the Night Market will bring with it a host of activities akin to a street festival. Warm up with a hot toddy or gourmet latte from the pop-up coffee booth, sample a treat from the candy shop, or win your bae a stuffed forest spirit or mechanical goldfish from the carnival games.

Above all else, enjoy yourselves, defenders and dreamers and newly dead. Bask in the blue glow of the submarines and sip from your mug of cocoa and watch your breath crystallize into clouds as the lake gently sways the docks underfoot. You have earned this rest.

Additionally, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:

the tl;dr

  • December 12: The Night Market arrives at the docks

  • The Night Market is exactly what it sounds like, plus a street festival. It's cute! You can buy stuff! It's pretty straightforward! You'll see on the log!

  • Pluto, the leader of the Night Market, is a new major NPC! Everyone say hi, Pluto!

  • December 16: The Night Market packs up shop and descends back into the lake

WHEEZE....!! Thank you for the honest headsup about what would have happened to Meddy if one had shunted them into the town! Day would have been a very upset boy over his fallen friend.

And I'm okay with assuming Daylight had gotten this information and I will later make a plurk on how Day will be quick to share this information, so others have IC knowledge of it too. Thank you so much for the information on all of this neat stuff. It gives me a good idea of what Daylight will be getting from the vendors now. :>
