MONTHLY GAMEPLAN: AUGUST


GAMEPLAN: AUGUST

Hello, Next Nighters! July was a hell of a month, and thusly the August plan will be a little bit slower. This would be a great time to take advantage of NPCs like Weaver, Diode, and Clara, as well as dig into explorations that you've got burning at the back of your mind! In addition to that, though, here is what you can expect for the month of August.

AUGUST 01 - 14

Like clockwork, the automated systems at the lab kick into high gear, resulting in newcomers finding their way to Beacon, as well as the monthly influx of supplies. There's a bit more time for characters to get in requests... Even if they might come in a bit weird. Weaver has offered to help with Portal Repairs, though that will have to be pursued ICly to come into effect!

The supplies are all over, just like last time... Though, less helpfully, the spirits are not quite as helpful in collecting them. Characters might have to play a bit of Hide and Seek with the upstarts to recover all supplies, though it's all fun and games in the end and eventually the spirits will stop running off with that new pair of underwear you really need. Eventually.

As a lot happened both below and above the lake, this would be a great place to put together a town meeting of sorts. And of course, Intro Logs are always a good avenue for meeting new characters and introducing them ICly to how things work in Beacon!

On August 10th, Beacon will undergo a bit of a heat wave. Temperatures will skyrocket, and characters will find little relief, as air conditioning is not particularly common in a world without a sun. It might seem an especially good time to try the lake shore, though, perhaps that's a bit of a brave choice. They're going to have to tough it out for the week, utilizing whatever way they can to cool down.


AUGUST 15 - 31

At the smack-dab middle of the month, a new Test Drive will go up! Keep your eyes open, and make sure to tell your friends!

After the heat finally lets up, the forest spirits will start putting together a surprise of sorts for the residents of Beacon. And boy, do they know that doesn't sound the most appealing. Surprises from the spirits don't always go so well, historically. But this time around, the well-meaning spirits of Beacon seem to have decided that the group has earned a well-deserved break. How does one enjoy a break in the summer? Well, go to the Amusement Park! Of course!

The spirits will get a few of the games up and running, and entice characters to stop by with promises of rewards and prizes. The Lunch Lady, rarely seen outside of the school, demands the residents of Beacon attempt to best them in a Pie Making Contest. May the best Pie Maker stand above the rest! Of course, there's bound to be a Pie Eating Contest after.

For characters (and players) that might want to delve into something a little more spooky, there is a Funhouse. I'm sure nothing bad could be in that, especially not in the month of National Clown Week.

The amusements will run for a good part of the end of the month, allowing characters to have a little fun, let their hair down, and just recover from all their grievous injuries. Take a breather, Beacon Bits: You deserve it!

To round out the month, Applications and Player Check-In will be posted on August 22. They will both close at the end of the month.

If your character wants to help out at the lab to improve future item deliveries and new arrivals as well as lantern repairs, here's the spot! And as always, we have a spot for questions below. Last but not least, see the comment here to share about explores/ideas/plot developments that currently have been left unanswered. We as a mod team have a few to share and welcome other players to share as well, for the sake of newcomers. This would be a great place to go to find an idea for an explore or for something your character to dig into a little bit more.

Another update: we've come to a few conclusions based on ideas raised in our State of the Game post.

  • For the time being, we will continue running apps Monthly as well as Intros monthly. We decided this was a good place for characters to congregate, and that it could be overwhelming for new players to take the reins right away. If this stands to change in the future, we'll let you know!
  • We will continue to operate on a check-in basis in August. While running AC is potentially something we intend to do, as things stand now we thing it makes sense to stick to check-in for now.

    plans: Previous explore plans, take 2! Law getting injured in July plus the whole event sort of delayed what Rosinante wanted to do. So, early August here he's going to finally get looking for the mines, or railroad tracks that might lead to them. Anyone want to come along?

    He has also offered to help explore the underground tunnel system more fully since there's the branch that heads north, but they don't know where it goes.
    notes: I'm on vacation until around August 6 but I'd be happy to spearhead one of these once I get back!

    plans: He would like to resolve the situation with the monster in the museum "water feature", see if they can find out what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. DIFFICULTY: the baby world eater at Helix jacked up Fitz's impulse control so it's even less there than usual, so he might be more of a liability than an asset for this. But that's fun!

    here's just a few things that i know have come up and people might like to explore!

    - there's a power plant somewhere in beacon. characters haven't found it yet and a couple of places can't operate properly without it! it's gotta be out there somewhere!
    - at the orphanage there are some dangerous little tricksters and a banshee-esque spirit that blew out carmilla's eardrums. she's not inclined to go back but maybe there's something else to find there?
    - the introduction message got a little fried after the flood, so if anyone wanted to make a new one?
    - the village is kind of in SHAMBLES after the flood, and anyone that wanted to spearhead the repairs there, that could be an interesting player project!

    Since Lorem is moving into the village and will be seeing the mess for herself, she'll be interested in trying to figure out how to spearheard the repairs! She works best in these kinds of projects and has experience in doing a project like this in the past. :>

    I was thinking of doing twoish logs and/or toplevels for this sort of player project, with one being the first stages to set the build-up of the repairs and the second one being actual build-up, haha. So it'll be something like this:

    LOG/TOPLEVEL ONE.
    - Damage assessment of the village.
    - Drafting up list of prioritised areas and calculating how much which place will need.
    - Resource gathering for the finalised list of materials.

    LOG/TOPLEVEL TWO.
    - Drumming up support, be it in characters or well-meaning spirits who will try their best.
    - Rebuilding/repairing the village of its damages, despite with the spirits' help!

    FYI, Javert and Soldat used a bunch of materials from ruined cabins to rebuild bridges and the general store, so new wood and things will be needed for rebuilding the cabins, if people are going that route.

    Soldat suggests staying at the Invincible or Landmark though >.> it's been shown that the village isn't really safe, too easy to get cut off and too hard to defend...

    Gotcha! So wood, nails, and so on will definitely be on the materials list during an inspection. I'm definitely thinking of having Lorem push for rebuilding and not just repairing but try to be realistic about it? Some cabins needing only some (extensive) repairs while other cabins definitely need to get rebuilt to be habitable again.

    And ooooh- Maybe I can incorporate that into the first log? Like a prompt where she approaches long-term residents and ask about their thoughts on the village's status. So that point gets brought up and it could be a way for Lore and Soldat to chat and stuff. :>

    I think this would be a great player project! I know there are former individuals that lived there that might want to help out repairing, Matt included. He's not exactly a carpenter but he'd help out where he could.

    Looking at the locations page it might make sense to revise the amount of housing there to reflect the damages, and maybe consolidating supplies into a few structures? I dunno!! but i know you could get some biters on repairs and i love the idea as a player project :)

    Thank you for your future help, Matt. Lore has no.... upper body strength or lower body strength.... or any strength, really. This smart noodle needs a lot of help in getting the heavy things around the places they need to be and putting them together...!

    And oh! I really like that approach for the repairs! Maybe that's what the damage assessment prompt can focus on: Trying to figure out which cabins have hope of being rebuilt, which cabins need some repair and they'll be good as new, and which cabins aren't viable and it's just best to scavenge? It'll help make the scope of the project more realistic and help bump the chance of success for the project. :>!!

    Sounds great! Rosi used a bunch of the supplies he'd accumulated to help rebuild Will's cabin or he'd be willing to volunteer his log piles, but in the process he's gotten some building experience so he may be around to help out if he's not out exploring!

    Oh my gosh yes thank you for having building experience, Rosi! That'll be a big help in the, well, building stuff when it happens after Lore gathers everything and everyone she can.

    ALSO I'M NOT GONNA LIE... IN THE FUTURE... It's going to be a doozy to now write my character now needing to look up while she's addressing Rosi, because this character is not a fellow giant.

    A few things of my own I've noticed, some from many months ago now, that people might enjoy following up on:

    - Somewhere, there's a chunk of plutonium that's gone missing. It used to be in the museum, traded hands a few times, and now??
    - There's a manhole entrance and a sewer. Javert unlocked a gate that had blocked the sewer tunnel, but left because of a hostile spirit. What's past the gate?
    - There's still a large locked metal door in Dr. Solis' lab as well as an abundance of research notes that could be interesting to dig into.
    - And I know we just wrapped up with the Helix Station event but there's surely more to look at there too now, especially since the place has power again and doesn't have a world eater in the middle of it trying to off everyone.

    i've actually been thinking about revisiting the sewer explore, if no one else wants to take a crack at it first! javert hasn't been very forthcoming with information about it because he knows someone will go down there and do something reckless and he doesn't want to enable that kind of behavior.

    if anyone has an interest this though lmk! the clown spirit is probably still in the sewers there somewhere and it might turn out to be a long expedition.

    it IS possible to still explore the helix station/night market! though since the only operating sub is Weaver's, chars will just need her help to get down there. they can secure her help via asking in her inbox, or if you want to handwave that process go ahead and pm her journal!
