EVENT INFO: BOTTOM OF THE RIVER

EVENT INFO: BOTTOM OF THE RIVER

the basics

Rain falls. It falls, and falls, and falls some more, covering Beacon in dark, rushing water. Cut off from your friends, what will you protect - and how will you do it?

the details

As covered in the April monthly roundup, the flooding is intense and catastrophic and will last the entire remainder of the month. The event will be slightly backdated so as to give characters from April 15th-17th to prepare for a rainstorm they were alerted to thanks to the weather station - however, there is no clear indication of how long the rain will last or how intense it will be.

On April 19-30, the rains pour down, dividing Beacon into three sections with the rivers as hard boundaries. Whichever side of the river you're on when the rain starts, that's where you stay for the remainder of the event - even if you can fly or teleport. Strange! All existing bridges will be washed downriver, along with pretty much anything not completely bolted down - and even then, the powerful floodwaters might rip the bolts out, too.

Two signup headers are available below: DEFENSE and INJURY. Under DEFENSE, please suggest a building or location your character is going to try and prepare for the flood, and please feel free to elaborate on what they will be doing! If your character is going to help defend a location already suggested by another player, feel free to add a +1 under their header with whatever additional details you would like to add. Remember the more characters at a location, the more likely is it to survive with minimal damage. Some locations will not survive the torrent. Please submit DEFENSE comments by 11:59 PDT (GMT -7) April 24 if possible as these will inform what happens in May game events.

Under INJURY, sign up to volunteer your character for a good ol' Beacon bone-bashing. Severity of injuries will be RNGed and some characters may escape entirely unscathed. If there are any hard limits or squicks feel free to let us know and we will avoid those sorts of injuries for your character entirely. Death is currently NOT a risk. You'll see why later. Feel free to submit INJURY comments through the end of the event. We will try to get to these as soon as we can so you can use them in threads if you like - completely optional!

Additionally, players are welcome to use this post for OOC event plotting! In fact, please do, as not everyone in the game has access to each other's plurks! If you'd like, you can use the small form below to kickstart your plotting plans:

the tl;dr

  • April 15: Weatherproofing begins. Patch the roof, and maybe move some torches!

  • April 18-30: The flood commences. What will survive the deluge?

THE INVINCIBLE

This has always been Rosi's priority since it's centrally located. He'll be working on re-digging the trench around the building to help redirect the floodwater (with no idea that it will be Not Enough but you know) and will be doing some heavy lifting to get food and supplies on the ground floor up to an empty couple of rooms on the second floor.

D.Va is worried for the Landmark Hotel since that's where she lives, but she'll probably spend most her time helping at the Invincible. She's more than happy to help bring supplies to a safe area.

Buck is here for this building, too. Count him in for moving supplies and maybe torches, especially.

supplies!

Pudding is small and slight and not exactly made for heavy work, but having been told sunlight is nonexistent and supplies are slim, her focus will be on moving as much food to high, dry ground as possible. She also has some knowledge of waterproofing food packaging for sea travel so she'll be adding that to her efforts in case the waters do make it to the second floor.

Hana will be helping out around the Invincible and supplies are important, so she would love to help her out however she can.

oh hello and bless!! Pudding will be genuinely overjoyed at all the help she can get! Whatever Hana can do, Pudding will set her to right away. I'm canonblind so I'm not sure what Hana's skillsets are outside of her mech acting and the like?

Jason calls the Invincible home and knows they've done a lot to fortify it in the past so would definitely be keen on getting supplies in the upper floors and trying to help dig trenches if needed (he's had to dig his fair share of trenches for the Legion...so yeah).

Cheryl isn't much for heavy lifting, but she's happy to help organize and boss people around into doing what she thinks they should be doing.

Kuai will be confined to the second floor for reasons but he can freeze from a fairly far distance so he could create barriers if there was a rush of flood water carrying debris coming their way. Tho that will also eventually melt and add to the rising water level so he'll be doing that strategically.

Tadashi's been living in the Invincible, so he'd like to protect it as long as possible. He'd be willing to help move things to higher floors and dig trenches if necessary...or anything else, really. He's flexible and wants to help!

Look, whatever it takes to get him to help out. At least that coffee will be well-earned.
