GAMEPLAN: JUNE

GAMEPLAN: JUNE
Hey everyone, ready for the plan for June? See below for event details and more - and especially please check the OOC section for some small reminders.
As always, please make sure to respond to the check-in if you haven't already! We do not post warning lists, so please make sure you've commented. Failure to comment by the end of the check-in period will result in being swept from the game..
june 1-15
When June 1 rolls around, the town will discover that yet again, the ferry does not arrive. Hm. Supplies are dwindling perilously low, and many buildings still require extensive repairs so keep these things in mind for this month, and maybe consider fixing a few places up with the form on the setting page!
The lack of new people and items can be explained by the lighthouse's collapse, and while the group that discovered Dr. Solis' lab found a potential set of machines to fill that gap, it seems it still needs some tweaking in order to do that particular job. As soon as the explore wraps up, the location post for the lab will have OOC signups where your characters can pitch in to help unravel the secrets of Dr. Solis' experimental technology. Characters will be able to help work out the machinery that repairs lanterns, or fine-tune the ability to retrieve items and people, or even help discover how to actually target a location in Beacon where these will appear. Previously, it must have been at Helix Station where the proper portal is, but now they will have some control over the location of new arrivals! Things may be a bit wonky the first month, but with time they will surely get better at operating the tech, right?
This mechanic will largely work through a combination of RNG and the number of signups, much like the flood event. This way, everyone can help contribute even if they aren't technologically-oriented, if they like. Sure, if you know some quantum physics, maybe you'll be the one working out the best equations to bring in your favorite types of food, but others can do things like bring in supplies from storage to the 3D printers, or rewire the cables in the lab, or even do some reading up and organizing of Dr. Solis' notes. Plenty of jobs for everyone!
Next, we will have an NPC post on June 5th from Beacon's newest member: Clara, the (former) assistant to Dr. Solis. She has a request for all of you, but also this post will serve as a general in-person mingle for anyone wishing to meet her in person at the Bonfire Square.
On June 8-10, Beacon will experience a meteor shower! This is essentially a weather event so please feel free to incorporate it into logs and threads however you like, but there will not be a separate event log posted.
On June 14th, the Night Market does not arrive as was scheduled. If you were hoping you'd be able to restock on some supplies when they come to the harbor, welp - so much for that. Wonder what happened to them?
Also on June 14th, our main event for June, We All Still Die, will begin. The flood was catastrophic, and yet finally there's hope on the horizon - lanterns can be repaired and soon, fresh supplies and new visitors will arrive. Plus, before the world went dark, the longest day was around this time of year. All of this sounds like cause for celebration, according to the spirits! They just want to cheer you up, and for the first time, help you welcome back the eventual return of the sun - even if that's still a long way off.
To do this, they've taken a previous Beacon resident's sun-welcoming tradition and made it their own! For part one, The spirits will begin by setting out all kinds of foresty crafting supplies - big sheets of bark, fresh and dried plants and flowers and boughs, some handmade grass and bark cord, branches and stones and more, all so you can make your own masks. They all wear masks, and maybe it's time you considered doing so as well! They'll also hand out some instruments if you don't have one of your own - pan pipes, flutes, maracas, and other easily handmade instruments which you can decorate to your liking!
june 16-30
The spirits will give everyone a couple of days to get their masks just right before We All Still Die part two commences on June 16. Festivities begin in the middle of Bonfire Square where the spirits have gathered everyone to witness the ritual sacrifice of a few of their own. What a delight, to be chosen to die at a party! Remnants of these sacrificed spirits will be offered to all attendees to take part of, for surely you're all hungry and thirsty by now, as not even the greenhouse's boost in growth can completely take over for feeding everyone an entire month. At this point, the spirits gather up everyone for a parade route. Yes, that's right - that parade.
What happens if you join in all the festivities, and what happens if you resist? Well, you'll just have to wait for the full event writeup for the details! ICly, this event will run through June 18.
And on June 20, the night before the new moon, a faint blue-green tint can be visible on the waves of the lake. Spirit bioluminescense will be visible through the 22nd on these three darkest days of the month, and while it doesn't really cast any more light than any other non-functional light source does, it's very pretty. Happy solstice!
ooc news
- Because Dr. Solis' lab has been discovered and work on calibrating the machinery has begun, on June 22 we will be opening apps! As mentioned on the Test Drive Meme, we will have 20 player slots open for this app round, double the usual amount. In future app rounds, we will have 10 slots open each month until the player cap is reached.
- Speaking of the TDM, please do go check it out and tag around so that new potential applicants can test-drive their characters!
- As mentioned on this month's activity check, June's AC will also be a check-in. However, players who submit an AC proof of 5 log or 10 network comments will receive one bonus explore token which can be used in July for an extra explore.
- Also, remember those torches you collected at the start of the month? If you haven't already, let us know where they ended up. If we don't hear back, eventually we will assume they were added to the bonfire. Also hey, item requests will open back up this month! Put in your requests and if RNG cooperates based on the number of people working on the machinery (as mentioned above) then your items will be delivered on July 1 with the new batch of Beacon residents.

QUESTIONS
food supplies
Could I get a little more detail on "perilously low"? Pudding inventories the entire supply at The Invincible every morning and night; she's been making shared breakfasts and Soldat as usual has been making shared lunch, and they've both been trying to ration as carefully as possible with the likelihood that the ferry wouldn't appear again. Soldat expected to try to get them through to the Night Market; Pudding is less sure of a time and is hanging hopes on everyone repairing (or whatever, she's not a scientist) the portal, so assumed at least a month... With the supplies from the Lighthouse added in, I think we'd figured on things being thin but no one going hungry.

The efforts of Pudding and others, plus the bonus growth at the Greenhouse and some extra food found at the lighthouse, all helped push what they had remaining through the entire month of May already without running out. Now we will be going into June, marking two whole months without a ferry shipment. There will certainly be some shortages toward the end of the month as that is an extremely long time to go without a resupply. Remember also that the characters do not necessarily know for sure yet if their efforts at the lab will work to bring in more food - this is very much a trial run.
Note also that "supplies" is not limited to food. The ferry brings items such as new clothing, cleaning products, paper products, construction supplies (such as nails and screws), and much more. Any of these things may also be dwindling by the end of June, especially given that the flood might have ruined them or swept some of them into the lake.
Ultimately, we are not micromanaging the exact quantities of supplies that are left. This is simply a survival-style gameplay option for those who wish to use it in threads.

I think I miscommunicated - by the end of June, certainly, they'll be running almost out. By "at least another month" for Pudding's inventory, I meant from the end of May when this was posted! What they have definitely will not last much past the end of June if at all, and Pudding's hanging hope on the "trial run" being able to do... something??? by the skin of their teeth, not hoping it will magically fix all their shortages.
It was as much "perilously low" as I asked previously, and I should also have mentioned "for surely you're all hungry and thirsty by now" by the 16th being part of what surprised me.
I'm sorry for any confusion, I think in failing to share my entire thought process I came across as the one being micromanagey.
Thank you for your response! This all makes sense.

character(s): javert
plans: now that the bridges have been built and the armory's been cleaned up, javert's going to want to get to work on some other repairs around beacon. he's mainly interested in fixing up the post office and the church, and he'll definitely need some help, especially with the latter.

But if they don't respond or are hostile regardless, a little light stabbing of angry fish spirits could be fun.

character(s): Rosinante
plans: Aside from being super irritable and twitchy from the lack of nicotine (no that's not a plan that's just a fact), Rosi is looking to go exploring with Kuai and possibly Cao Pi out to wherever Kuai found that torch out in the woods last month that had some sort of strange static sound nearby.
Otherwise, a lot of the month he'll be pitching in on construction, trying to take learning spirit language a bit more seriously, and he will definitely be spending some time at the lab helping to get things running and probably tripping on and unplugging every single wire in the building while he's at it. Sorry.
For the mask event, he'll definitely be around for the initial festivities. Making a mask? Cute, sure, he'll indulge them even though he's no artist. It's all in the name of trying to show some goodwill. However, due to being force-fed by green-eyes back a couple months ago there is no way he's going to be partaking in any sort of sacrificial offering. Whatever comes of half-assing going with the spirits, he'll just have to accept those consequences - and he sure as hell isn't going to want to join in that parade if he has a choice in the matter, so we'll see how that goes.
More TBA when the event OOC post goes up, I suppose! Otherwise he's generally being helpful and cranky this month and will be found either around Bonfire Square or over at the lab.

character(s): Fitz Kriener
plans: He's going to make so many poor choices late in the months. Mask? A party? A parade? Will there be food and merriment? He'll so be there like the ridiculous gremlin he is. I am totally prepared to roll with the consequences.
Aside from that, he'll be poking at the lab early on. Fitz has already done some archival work with the Town Hall records (which need a permanent home, maybe the shcool? help him with that?) so he can try sorting through Dr. Solis' notes, but also his cloned/artificially-constructed brain gets along well with computers and he's good at puzzles. He also wants to put up a "here be monsters" warning sign at the Museum's water feature, if anyone else wants to explore there more.
notes: I am so stupidly slow and a little hesitant to jump in on things being relatively new, but I am totally prepared to get roped into potentially character-traumatizing shenanigans. Let's go.

character(s): Bucky/Soldat, Stone
plans: All I know is Soldat is noping out of everything here. Labs? NOPE. Wearing things on their face? NOPE. Eating more spirit-meat? NOPE. They'll be pretty mopey because they're losing at least one good friend early in the month, and guilty that they can't make themselves go to the labs to help, so they're gonna be doing a lot of building project shit with Javert and, you know, anyone else who needs help? And patrols, like always.
Stone, though, I intend to throw into things. He'll be useless at the lab unless people need heavy things carried or held up or rearranged, given he's half-blind and far-sighted and from a hunter-gatherer society, but he will try so help him. Also game for the mask-party and spirit-meat, though he will make a face at the latter because, look, there are cannibals in his world and they're awful, but he'll have a bite out of politeness' sake or something. Iffy on the parade, we shall see.

Or he can draw you another picture XDb
He just wants to help his friend.

character(s): Masaomi Kida
plans: Masaomi is definitely going to be at the Clara mingle to make up for not being able to help find her, but if he helps with the lab, it won't be for anything too complicated. He's an internet addict, not a technology expert.
As for We All Still Die... Sob. Masaomi will be hesitant enough with the mask portion. He'll join in just for the sake of distraction and probably make something that doesn't resemble an actual forest spirit mask at all. The offer of spirit bits as food, however, will leave him physical ill and bolting. He will refuse the parade as well. Because. Yeah. That wasn't a pretty death for him.
I can offer Masaomi attempting to take pictures of the bioluminescense as a "boy, Wind sure has been nonexistent for almost two months now; it would be nice if our characters could just freaking talk to each other for a bit" style log as well.
notes: Masaomi is probably handing over potions of his meal rations to the girls still around and subsequently laughing off any visible weight loss.

it's the circle of people not eating their food

she's just trying to get her juice box to keep up his strength.. you make this so hard masaomi

Hahasob, he will do his best to be a delicious juice box in turn. To be perfectly honest, thinking about how someone here might be relying on him is probably the only reason he can still smile.

character(s): Matt murdock & carmilla karnstein
plans: He will not take much in the way of rations, he has previously figured out exactly how much food he needs and will only eat that, if that. he would give his portions to younger people or anyone that seems to need it more. Matt has offered to teach characters how to be more in tune with sensing things without eyesight. Let me know if any char would like to learn about that! otherwise he doesn't have much going on - but I'd like to send him out on an explore. as far as the event, he will make a mask or have treeby make him one, but he will not consume any spirit.
carmilla is a vampire and she doesn't eat food. she will probably give her rations to the two people she kinda likes in beacon. carmilla still has a bone to pick w green eyes and she's interested in an explore to try and find where they are and murder the fuck out of as many as she can. all in favor say πͺ lastly she might make a mask for the fun of arts and crafts but last time she consumed spirit she was sick af so no thanks on that. hopefully..... previously consuming spirit......... won't be an issue...
notes: I am on hiatus through this month between surgery, vacation, and accelerated classes. let's hand wave things, or plan little low pressure things!

character(s): Cao Pi
plans: tentatively going out with Kuai Liang and Rosinante to check things out, hesitant as he is after the face-stealing but yknow can't sit back forever. I may make another announecment post after the 1st referencing the ferry and supplies, since he's taking leadership seriously while I have been literally awol. Noping straight out of spirit festivities, though, he draws several lines here between diplomatically trying to understand and cooperate with them vs cannibalism.
Generally he's putting his money where his mouth is, stinting and rationing and starving himself to make sure others have enough, but it might not be noticeable since he's subsisting on water and what's left of the wine. Those with keen observation senses might notice him not showing up for meals (he did used to regularly, since he can't cook for shit and that's the only way to get fed).
Anyway hit me up to plan other things because I need a bit of a hand getting back into the swing of things here.
notes: I'm admitting defeat and straight up clean-slating everything from the past couple of months. If you want to continue a thread just point me to it and I will gladly do so, otherwise consider everything dropped so I can focus on forward momentum.

Cao Pi's already changing his concepts of necessary leadership, going with the flow. So he's already on board with a council or team or whatever it turns into. At the bare bones he needs to plan for who's involved, and how frequently they get together to brief each other on what's been happening and what they need to do. Daily briefings might be a bit much but he's not opposed since that's how he would roll back home.

I can't say how often praetors in Camp Jupiter met --- but it would make sense to be touching base with each other daily and maybe a big town hall...idk weekly? monthly? Jason would want to keep the general population of Beacon as informed as possible and with things the way they are right now a weekly meeting might be good (which of course we wouldn't have to thread).
Jason would be thinking they need to make a list of ongoing and current projects, as well as, what needs to be worked on in the future. Probably figure out who is already heading those things up and just get everything organized and see where they have holes -- things or places or whatever that people haven't considered yet. (I guess like a more detailed/in depth version of the patrol chart he crafted way back when).
no subject
Biweekly or monthly at most, I guess it depends on how quickly events happen or new things are uncovered. It might be more frequent at first as they get a handle on recovery and re-discovery of what's gone, what's still around, and what can be fixed, tapering off if things stabilize.
Making some sort of ooc place for people to sign up or just make note that their characters are doing what is...I guess I should look into what there already is for projects, plots, setting, etc, and then see if we need one. That would also cut down on the need to thread out who has claimed to be doing what.

character/s: elektra natchios and megara
plans: elektra's making a mask but is not going to willingly consume a spirit since she was among those who fell ill after being force fed spirits when she and the others were kidnapped. also she'll help out with rationing however possible and i'd like for her to go on an explore, maybe.
megara is also wearing a mask, she might be wary of going on an explore but i'm not shy about having her go on one. :D
