EVENT SIGNUP: DO YOU REALIZE?

EVENT SIGNUP: DO YOU REALIZE?

the basics

As he announced in his recent network post, Winters is planning an expedition out to the lighthouse with the intent of reconnecting the Lighthouse Keeper to the network. The expedition is due to head out during a big ol' party that the forest spirits are planning for the town. Both the expedition and the party are going to require some help from Beacon's new residents, so if you'd like to get involved with that plot directly, this is where to let us know!

Signups are broken into two main categories: The expedition and the party. ICly, Winters will take note of signups and sort groups based on how he thinks the skillsets will be best spread. OOCly, it's random, baby! Mostly. We'll determine the groups via RNG while taking player preferences into account. How many players will be able to get involved depends on how signups go, but our goal is to involve up to half of our current playerbase.

You may sign up your character(s) for both the expedition and the party, though each player will be limited to one character with a role in the event. For example, if you play Characters A and B, you may sign them both up to help with the expedition and the party. It's your name that will go into the RNG drawing, and then if you're chosen to help with the expedition, we'll remove your name from the drawing for the party. TL;DR: Everyone has the same chance to be chosen in the RNG!

Characters do not need to sign up for either group in order to attend the party! Anyone not involved with either of these groups is welcome to enjoy the event as they wish; these signups are just for the expedition and the planning stages of the party.

Signups will close on August 10 at 11:59 PM EST, and we'll post/get in contact with the finalized groups shortly thereafter.

the expedition

The expedition will be further broken into roughly 2-3 teams depending on how signups go. At minimum, there will be one lookout group organized by Leu playing Will and one lighthouse expedition crew led by Mippins playing Winters. With enough hands on deck, we'll be able to form more specific groups, such as support/defense squads to help protect the main lighthouse crew and a more organized system of lookouts stationed at key point throughout town.

The group accompanying Winters to the lighthouse itself will be limited to 3-4 players. Being selected for any role in this event will reduce your chances of being selected for similar opportunities in the future (we want to spread the wealth!), and that's especially true for the Winters crew, given their importance to this part of the plot. You're still welcome to sign up for future plot roles, though we will prioritize players that haven't yet had a chance to be involved.

Every character chosen for a role in the expedition will be at risk for serious injury and potentially death, especially the Winters crew! As Vanitas can attest, venturing past the barbed wire fence near the lighthouse is quite dangerous! Please refrain from signing up for an expedition role if you're not okay with your character dying.

Finally, given the nature of the expedition, only characters with skills relevant to each role will be chosen to participate. However, this doesn't necessarily mean you can't sign up if your character would be an unconventional choice! In the signup form, there's a space to describe your character's skills as relevant to the role(s) you'd like. If you think your character would be an asset to the expedition group despite their lack of survival or combat experience, let us know! We'll do our best to accommodate as wide a range of characters as possible, and if you miss out this time, there will be opportunities in the future to do cool plot stuff.

To sign your character up for the expedition, fill out this form in a response to that comment!

the party

The expedition is vitally important, yes, but they're not going to get very far without a good distraction, not to mention you'll want to keep on good terms with the forest spirits should things go poorly.

Players chosen for the party planning committee will work with mods Danielle and Kit to set up the party alongside our resident forest spirits. The Postmaster General, the Librarian, and the Vendor are here to help! Party planner responsibilities include all the fun party trimming such as refreshments, entertainment, decorations, and so forth. It may not sound as plot-important as the expedition, but the expedition's success depends heavily on the state of the party! Think of it as a diplomatic affair. A Shruted up flop of a get-together won't show the forest spirits you care much about being a part of their community, while a Gatsby-style all-out bash may just distract the spirits from caring all that much about lighthouse infiltration. They are simple creatures, after all. Wanna food!

To sign your character up for the party planning committee, fill out this form in a response to that comment!

the tl;dr

  • No TL;DR for the signups process! Please read all of this information carefully!

  • You do not need to sign up to attend the party or participate in the event without a role.

  • Signups close on August 10 at 11:59 PM EST. Groups will be selected, contacted, and listed publicly shortly thereafter.

  • An OOC informational post about this event will go up on August 12

player: Raina
character: Jason Todd
role preferences: Defense, Winter's Group, Lookout
relevant skills: Jason's basically a killing machine at this point, but relevant skills: weapons mastery, utility belt, guns, etc... with the right equipment he can rig explosions and the like
chardismastic: (042.)

[personal profile] chardismastic 2019-08-08 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
player: sammo
character: rafe
role preferences:

1. winter's group
2. anything involving climbing up the lighthouse tbh let a bitch climb
3. defense
4. lookout

relevant skills: as a black market treasure hunter, Rafe is highly skilled in both unarmed and armed combat and will be bringing his two pistols with him to use if necessary. he's an expert marksman, capable of precision shots as well as slightly sloppier running and gunning. also if you need someone to climb shit like a gibbon, swinging around with a grapple and flinging himself through the air, Rafe is your man.

Rafe also has been taking lessons in shadowbinding from Melisandre so he's able at this point to create knives out of almost thin air, fling said knives into things, and create small to medium (temporary) structures out of solidified shadow. this is a skill he's keeping close to the vest for right now, but if necessary he can whip it out and show what he can do with it.
callada: (que jugando con tu sugestión)

[personal profile] callada 2019-08-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
player: Lauren
character: Rosinante [personal profile] callada
role preferences: Rosi certainly wants to go with Winters primarily, but he also likes Will and would do well as a lookout. Defense would be third pick but all are great.
relevant skills: Despite the balance/clumsiness issues, Rosinante has had a lifetime of military combat training. He certainly prefers fighting at range with pistols (and has excellent aim) or explosives, though he'd probably have to borrow a weapon in case of a fight. That said, he's also comfortable with good old fashioned brawling it out.

He's massive and bulky and great at carrying large, heavy objects and doing basic repair work like what Winters was talking about. Also, tall, in case that's useful somehow.

His skills as a lookout are honestly what he might be best suited for as long as he's on his own, since he can completely silence himself or someone else, and is comfortable navigating in darkness by compass and landmarks. If any one group is going to be stationary for a while though he can create a sound barrier about the size of an average room so that anyone inside can't be heard by those outside (and vice versa).

[personal profile] takeanyadvantage 2019-08-08 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
player: Dee #2
character: Chloe Frazer
role preferences: Winter's Group, Lookout, Defense
relevant skills: Chloe's a skilled hand to hand combatant and expert with weaponry. She also now has several weapons that she can wield that way. She's a very experienced explorer, adventurer, and skilled at picking up on details and things that most people might miss or look right past. She is tough as nails and for a human has a lot of stamina, muscle strength, and tenacity.

player: z
character: five
role preferences: winters, defense, lookout.
relevant skills: five has access to his power of short-range teleportation! additionally, he's an excellent survivalist after living through the apocalypse for 30-40 years, and has a lot of training in combat between the umbrella academy (superheroics) and the commission (murder).

[personal profile] rehabbed 2019-08-08 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
player: Alex
character: Jesse Pinkman
role preferences: Lookout, probably, but I'm open to other possibilities
relevant skills: So, Jesse is just a standard human, has no wildly impressive skills. But he's very observant, surprisingly resourceful, he's someone who thinks outside the box, and he can sometimes come up with genius ideas that others might not have thought of. He knows how to strategise and map out extremely risky and dangerous plans, right down to the last detail, thanks to being deeply involved in and surviving the high-level criminal world. Jesse can be a wildly nervous person, but he knows how to get stuff done and how to focus; he's had to do some truly awful things back in his world that he didn't want to do, but did anyway because it needed to be done. He's been in extremely dangerous situations, and survived, because of focusing on what needs to be done, despite his fear; he can survive this, too. LONG ASS ANSWER FOR "this is what he could bring to the expedition" dfgdghfgh.

player: Nick
character: Scott Ryder
role preferences:
Defense, lookout, Winter's group, preference in that order!
relevant skills: Scott is skilled with both melee and guns, and uses them in harmony. Though right now he's mostly melee as his rifle is low on ammo and he loaned his gun out. He also has very strong biotics (manipulation of dark energy, space mind powers to simplify it?) that help him propel himself to high places but especially use powerful attacks (very limited though, and leaves him tired). They are also good for defense because he can either grab someone and JUMP HIGH out of danger or make a quick shield to give them a few seconds to get to safety.

Being a recon specialist and a Pathfinder means he's especially skilled at studying his environment and even using it to his advantage. And also gathering information from said environment. He's used to having to familiarize himself with foreign planets really fast and adapting to whatever's thrown at him. He also has military training and experience teaching others how to defend themselves, if that somehow ends up being useful.

player: Ashley
character: Hope Mikaelson
role preferences: winters' group, defense/support, lookout
relevant skills:

-can heal others with her blood (though not from lethal wounds) as well as heal her own wounds
-enhanced speed, strength and senses
-plenty of magic in her arsenal (unlocking spells, location, elemental, cloaking, etc)
-close-combat training
-can shift into a wolf for more nature-based instincts, further improved senses

player: Alex...2!
character: Nathan Drake
role preferences: winters / something something lighthouse-climbing / lookout / defense

relevant skills: Nate has decades of experience in dangerous exploration, a frighteningly high body count (thanks video game logic), and is an absurdly deft hand at scaling things that appear otherwise incapable of being scaled.

Comfortable with open combat, stealth, and recon, he's an excellent shot with his sidearm and is invariably deadlier with his fists. While his current semi-automatic is his only firearm, his other equipment includes a grappling hook and rope, a piton, and a few handy spells - the most relevant of which provide shielding, prevent falling, and fling explosive bolts of energy.

[personal profile] consecrates 2019-08-08 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
player: Trix
character: Davina Claire
role preferences: Lookout or defence
relevant skills:
- Offensive magic such as pain-infliction spells and telekinesis, including cracking bones and breaking necks
- Defensive magic such as boundary spells as traps or shields, magic for cloaking and locating (if shit happens and someone gets lost) and good old illusions
- Short-range astral projections

[personal profile] hext 2019-08-08 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
player: margot
character: wanda maximoff
role preferences: winters' group, defense, lookout
relevant skills: wanda would work well in the team getting the line rigging all the way to the goal of the lighthouse - her levitation powers include lifting objects the size of watchtower buildings at airports and much larger, although given how powers are treated here, it will take more out of her afterward. she can also use her telekinesis at the molecular level to repair objects that are broken, should they need that skill inside the lighthouse (or heal an injured keeper if she has wounds?).

she can pull these elements up with her while flying beside them, so as to be less vulnerable to ground enemies - OR, if we want to play with vulnerabilities, we can tweak that.

her powers also work well for defense if she's assigned to her second choice, as she can create psionic shields against evil forest entities and send psionic blasts to blow them back from the company, on ground or in the air. she's also been highly trained by this point in hand to hand combat, with the added oomph of her powers giving her hits extra force. if the mods said it were possible, she could also get a read on an enemy approach to warn the others of an oncoming attack, given that they seem to be somewhat organic - but if not, all the same, she can protecc.

lookout would work similarly - she has keen intuition and pays close attention to detail. since most characters may not be comfortable with a telepathic warning if something were approaching, she could always send a blast signal into the sky - it wouldn't be bright, but it would have sound and a dim scarlet color.

player: king
character: Vanitas
role preferences: 1. winter's group 2. defense
relevant skills: having already run into the forest spirits, Vanitas knows what they're capable of and to some extent, what to expect. he poked around a bit after he died to try and learn a little more on how people were interacting with the spirits and if they could be fought, since he'd been totally overwhelmed and unprepared for what he was facing.

vanitas can fight with his keyblade, but he can also comes with a small army. if it comes down to a fight, he can summon a horde of Unversed to help with that. he can also use them as distraction for the spirits, because while they are easily destroyed, he can essentially keep summoning them over and over ad nauseum until he's knocked out or killed. alongside that, he also has a host of dark magic abilities that he can use offensively or defensively.

he can also use his dark portal ability to teleport short distances and he can carry things through the portal if necessary. while he doesn't know anything about the technical side of things about hooking up the lighthouse, he can jump stupidly high and scale the sides of buildings naruto-style, so if pointed the right direction he could help with getting things back online. this is something his unversed could have a hand in also. plus, he's chomping at the bit to meet the lighthouse keeper so his incentive to play along will be pretty high.

player: laura
character: peter parker not spider-man gosh
role preferences: winter's group, lookout, defense
relevant skills: peter's good with tech and would be able to help out with any hiccups they encounter with reconnecting the lighthouse keeper via the network either without having to first, immediately go to ingram, or he'd have a pretty decent understanding of ingram's instructions without requiring in-depth explanations if they do get stuck and need his help.

also, whilst it's something he wouldn't broadcast at this point1, he is really fucking good at climbing (y'know, spider-man, here, he's kind of ... sticky), excellent with non-lethal attacks, and he has his spidey-sense to warn of any danger/threat to ...himself? he's agile and strong and used to being in life-threatening situations and coming up with unique strategies.

bonus! terrible jokes. this will either be great for morale or terrible for morale. either way, it's excellent for group bonding.

1 as peter, anyway.

character: replica riku/dawn
role preferences: first: lookout, second: defense, third: winters' group.
relevant skills: the replica has his keyblade and comes with experience in melee combat (armed and unarmed) as well as dark magic that he can utilize offensively or defensively. most notably, he's able to smell the darkness in living things/places. this means that he can detect when shit is about to hit the fan whether it's from an impending attack from the forest spirits or something else, and he will also be able to track people using the same ability. like vanitas, he can also teleport short distances by creating portals of darkness he can travel through, whether on his own or with someone else. in a pinch, he can swoop in and drag someone out of the line of fire if need be.

character: Arya Stark
role preferences: Recon (Arya is an ideal person to send ahead to spy without detection), defense, lookout. She would be hesitant about taking any main role in Winter's expedition because she doesn't know or trust the npcs yet, but she'd be drawn to an exploratory role to learn what she can independently with the support of others.
relevant skills: Arya is a trained spy and assassin and can move more quietly than the sound of a drop of blood. She's very skilled at hand-to-hand combat and sword/knife wielding, most effectively in a one-on-one situation but she can handle herself fighting groups too. She doesn't have her bow here but she has a keen eye and has trained while blind in order to function perfectly in the dark without that important sense. However she is also very independent and will disobey orders she doesn't feel are in her best interests (or the best interests of those she loves). Lastly, she is also a warg, although she doesn't have full control over her abilities - Arya can slip into the minds of animals and see through their eyes, although it's most common for her to do it in a compromised state - blind or asleep, etc.

relevant skills: As a trained advisor and tactician, Ignis is very good with mental games and observing the enemies. He easily pinpoints weaknesses during battle which helps others fell down the enemy.

He's an extremely good strategist overall, and he'd be a good backup for Will who would be on the lookout. If anything goes awry and things need quick reactions and solutions (such as quickest escape routes) - Ignis is your guy for it

His fighting abilities don't fall off either. He uses daggers in battle and can fight silently without causing much ruckus (especially since the darkness doesn't let elements that he uses to glow). His abilities are very versatile and Ignis is overall resourceful and careful.

  • containment: ability to cage creatures in a certain area
  • atmokinesis: ability to control the weather though typically requires more than just him

As a caster though he can offer protection, healing and debilitating enemies with his magic. Who knows maybe the spirits secret weakness is water and he can help melt them. He's not much of a close up combatant and if he has to fight it'd have to be at range...with a crossbow. Even if he isn't in the Winter's group he will offer the team going in protections and wards to get past the spirits to make the operation more of a success.

apart from that- after his meet-cute with bean i don't think he'd be able to justify fighting or hurting any spirits that they might theoretically encounter out there. sora's been in positions where he's had to fight people he didn't necessarily want to or people who he didn't think were bad or evil- but he doesn't really Other people or things. so even before the meetup he'd been vocal about leaving britney alone. so i mean that could throw a wrench in things, but is probably worth mentioning!

relevant skills: diplomacy and spirit relations! she generally has a good track record with the local spiritworld (so far), and her canon role frequently features soothing an ill-tempered king (so she's come to be quite good at... smoothing over tensions). cooking-wise, she's done a fair bit of it already in beacon, knows feeding the spirits is important, and used to work in the kitchens of the temple a long time ago, so it's not her first rodeo.

relevant skills: Anyone who knows Ignis also knows his hobby is cooking and baking. As old habits die hard, he has a pen and notepad with himself at all times, writing down ideas for meals or desserts. He's been on baking spree ever since he arrived (bagels and pretzels everywhere)- it calms his nerves. He's pretty chill when he cooks, very friendly even, quite approachable (can chat about cooking for hours), so even if something explodes in the kitchen, he'll handle it without panicking.

Trained to be royal advisor, Ignis is well versed in "you can say that but can't say THAT" type of things during parties. Of course, the parties he attended in the past were of royal character, but he doubts it changes much. His temper is mild and Ignis knows how to keep himself in check or how to deescalate the situation if things become too heated.

He's an organized and tidy person so, at the end of the night, the clean up shouldn't be that bad.

role preferences:Preferred: Hosting and decorating.
Least preferred: Cooking , entertainment
relevant skills: Diplomacyyyyy. Despite how he can come off to people in a casual scenario, Elden can talk and can be pretty convincing. He's worked with others before to convince large crowds or give big inspiring speeches but he's also been able to get info out of people or broker deals on his own. In general he is fairly friendly and is capable of keeping that up even in a tense or awkward scenario. Otherwise, he's a pretty good artist so he can help set the place up. (briefly list any skills your character has that may help with any of your requested roles.)

player: marzi
character: sora
role preferences: the heavy-lifting of setup, refreshments, welcome wagon
relevant skills: he's got 2 arms and doesn't mind getting bossed around by people who have a Vision so he can help with set up, and then there was that one time he learned how to cook from a disney rat even though he continues to mostly eat canned food like the gremlin he is, but he's also an empathetic and social young man who wouldn't really treat the spirits any differently than anyone else. he's not big on flattery because that involves thinking before you speak, but sora is good natured and kind. he just wants to help.
